Just a little bit o' touchup. Doesn't look that great, but it's better than having no paint.

06 STi 1 1/16" Brake MC + Booster

Another thing I've kind of just been putting off was getting the proper 1 1/16" bore brake MC as well as a brake booster made for boosted cars. Picked up an 06 STi Brake MC/Booster combo and tossed it in. The RS MC had a 1" bore and the RHD STi MC had the 1 1/16", so I figured it'd be worthwhile to get the PROPER parts to go with the brake system. Now my entire system (calipers, MC, prop valve) is the proper V4 STi system, and what a difference it makes. I can actually feel my brakes doing work, and can get into ABS with the tires I have which I couldn't do before. Time to get better ones :). Pedal is much harder and is just so much nicer. Anyone running 4/2 pots or the V4 setup like me on an RS brake MC NEEDS to put this on their car. Same goes for Brembos. There's a reason why Subaru makes certain things different.

Anyways, enough text... picture comparison time:

The STi booster and MC (also came with the line, totally forgot I needed it so thanks!)

The magic number

Image

RS stuff out. Looks like I'm going to have a wiring issue. Who's the moron that did that?

Image

Boosters side by side. STi on the right, RS on the left. The STi booster is actually quite a bit bigger than the RS one.

Image

MCs next to each other. RS on top, STi on bottom. Look the same, and have the same output points. Sweet, no ghetto bending!

Image

The lines were a bit different too.. doesn't really matter. STi on top, RS on bottom.

Image

STi stuff all in. Had to kinda reroute my wiring because of the bigger diameter of the STi booster.

Bleedin' stuff.

Also, shoes not required for this job.

And were all in and everything is ready to go! 0 Fitment issues for sake of wiring, which is custom to my car, so I doubt anyone else would have to worry about it.

Nice! So the STI brake booster and master cylinder were a bolt in affair outside of the wiring in the way?
Yep, just swapped the gasket over on to the STi booster it went right in. Kind of a pain in the ass to wiggle in there though haha.

My wiring issue wasn't really that big of a deal. I just had it routed to the side of the booster and then down under it and to the plugs. With the STi booster's bigger diameter I just had to move it on top. I doubt you'd even have that issue at all.

Interesting. I've felt my brakes are pretty effective, but it would be interesting to see what this does for it. Thanks for the info!
Yeah, the basic physics behind it all make sense.

Force = Pressure * Area

Assume constant pressure (hitting brakes with the same pressure) and increase the area (larger bore) and you have more force going to the brakes. Simplification of it, but yeah.

What Subaru has done is find the proper balance between feel and force (through means that are probably out of my skill set), because obviously you could let the area get extremely large and it would take an ant to blow on the brakes and you'd lock em up.
