I have a lot of interest on this subject.
Please, keep it up.

Can it be done?
I realize we would have to strip the GC8 bare naked, since it doesn't end at swaping the engine and tranny...
What about the diffs? axles? how will you keep the AWD system?
What about the streering rack?
Harness? I don't think so. I think we would need an aftermarket EMS ie MoTec, Haltech etc.
What about the fuel delievery system?
Different/custom gas tank?
Jesus christ.

I have the balls to do it, as I already restored and built a GC8 from the ground up both bodywork and engine-wise so I wouldn't mind doing it again.

Overall, I think it would be killer having the lightweight & agile GC8 chassis and the power and reliability of the EVO's engine and tranny.

So... keep it up guys.

I know this comment was made a while ago, but here's another example of a rotary powered 1988.5 Subaru RX.

Funny cause my buddy Loves Rotarys soooo much he will push all projects outside if I'd let him Wankel my Impreza....
They talk about traction issues & the cure being AWD...
I found a pic of a co. that 13BREW'd an Impreza & they went crazy + tried talking me into going Rotary...

You are trying way to hard! Standalone? Why? Merge the harness like a WRX swap. Only problem would be it would be way easier as the EVO has less wires.

I would make a custom tube framed cradle for the motor and use the stock a-arms and steering rack. That way you could use the stock suspension and hubs.

You are now custom axles and driveshaft away from a EVO powered GC/GD.

As for fuel system, gas tank, etc... Why why why! Why would you want to change so much? The gas tank isn't good enough for you? The fuel lines are fuel lines. A subaru is no worse than a EVO.

Bro, you got me all wrong. lol.
I don't want to change nor replace anything I dont need to.
I was just asking overall... because nobody mentioned it.

Anyhow, can you show me a diagram/picture of the "custom tube framed cradle" for the motor?
And which stock a-arms and steering rack? the evo's? or gc8's?

I love this thread.

buy a wrecked EVO and a L and have at it. Only way to find out what really needs to be done. Seen all kinds of things done to v8s, why should a subaru be any different? You might even be able to modify the crossmember on a EVO to work. I really don't have enough information on both to know.

And of course my Datsun 510/FC/KA24DE is first on the what if wish list.
