For those with a flip down head unit

I installed my Alpine Cda-9887 awhile ago, and noticed that when the faceplate would flip down, it would catch on the trim around the radio. A few minutes of trimming took care of this.

Tonight, I readjusted my DIN pocket so it would sit flush with the trim, and it looks great. There was, however, one nasty side effect: my flip down doesn't come close to clearing the trim!

I'm using the Metra Universal pocket from Best Buy, by the way.

When i had mine i removed the trim from the radio itself and it looked factory. It looks like it shouldn't come off but the little black ring on the housing is the culprit, remove that and it will fold out flat no problem. I would post pics but i have my new IVA-W200 installed now and the radio is in storage.

There is a little black trim ring around the front of the unit. It is actually connected to the metal case and is a bitch to pop off. Once you do that the HU can be pulled slightly farther out so it clears everything without trying to push your subaru trim out of the way.

Hey JDMPREZA713 I have the exact same head unit.

I installed mine in the lower position though. I prefer it there personally.
Not a single problem with catching or binding on anything. I did try the upper pocket for grins, and it binded on the dash trim when opening. So, I just went to the lower pocket where I was used to it anyway.

As for the trip piece.. Like Jersey, I don't use one. It looks factory without it. :)
