Relay [blows if wet?] Supertones related question

So I've had hella supertones for about 3 years now... and I've gone through 3 bad relays....

Now when I say bad, I'm saying that they went bad as time went on so I had to replace them.

The first two I did not electric tape the connections of the relay so as to keep it from contacting water. I was wondering if relays crap out if they get wet?

The most recent one, I took some precautions and electric taped up the connector part pretty tightly. However, I feel like it's starting to crap out again... Is there something I'm missing?

I think relays just seem to have a short life span. My brothers Exploder pops relays pretty often, for his power windows. So, I had gone to the junk yard once and picked up several of them, so as they went we could replace them... I actually used one of them for my supertones, b/c I bought them used and they didn't come with the factory relay.

But relays do seem to not like getting wet. I've read several threads about bad relays.

Moral is don't by them at an auto store for $10ish dollars. Go to the junkyard where u can prolly get them for free.

Yup.... me too.

I attempted to put the relay and related wiring inside a balloon. Used to do this with my RC cars back in the day. The balloons either rot away, or hold in the wetness that gets in.

I'd like to wire a mount so i can plug and pull the relay easily if needed.... as of now i mount them to the old horn bracket.

I was also tempted to dip the relay in tool handle dipping... Makes a rubber coating over it.
