Greddy EVO2 on an '06 2.5i

Anyone know if the Greddy EVO 2, which is stated to fit a 98-01 RS will fit on an 06 2.5i?

Normally I'd just say it won't, but there's a lot of stuff on these cars that haven't changed over the years. Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

thx

Might need to make a few small changes, but it will probably work, eventually. If it's anything like using the newer body style exhaust on the older cars, then a flange needs to be rotated, and a hanger needs to be moved. But that's for the WRX exhausts, not sure if the 2.5i is the same or not.

All new Greddy Evo2's come with a 4th hanger. You simply cut the one off that you don't need depending on your generation Impreza. Greddy wised up and realized there was a demand for their exhaust on all generation impreza's.

I have the 'Evo2 1998-2001 2.5RS' exhaust on my 05.

RSmatt, that's exactly what I was looking for, thanks a lot man.

I love the EVO2 Exhuast sound on our cars, it's great that I'll be able to get this specific exhaust, the Stromung XA just wasn't quite the sound I was looking for but seemed to be my only option (didn't want a 'coffee can' exhaust hanging out of the back of my car)

Thanks everyone for their input. I was really going back and forth about ordering the exhaust, now my mind is pretty much made up.

you will still need to rotate and extend the midpipe flange.

yes the hangers will be fine, but in 2006, the midpipe shape changed to be the same as the wrx and sti. so 98-05 RS exhausts are no longer bolt on.

your other option is to get the wrx evo 2. but i am not sure how much larger the piping is. if its 2.5 it may be a better choice, but i would stay away if its 3".

So you're saying that the exhaust will _not_ fit on my 2006 due to the change in shape of the midpipe?

the evo2 listed for the 98-05 RS will NOT fit your 2006 midpipe. the hangers will be good, but not the midpipe <> muffler connection.

you have two options: 1- buy the wrx version, should fit bolt on. 2- rotate and extend either your midpipe or your new evo2's flange at a muffler shop.

I guess I just don't understand what you're explaining.

The EVO2 that I'm looking at is a catback, so wouldn't hat mean that the exhaust is going to replace the midpipe (attach directly to the catalytic converter?)

It appears there are too many questions up in the air right now. Might be best to just get what I know will work.

Let's take some guesswork out...

Get this...

and this....

....and take them to an exhaust shop to weld them together. The first piece is what OBX uses as a resonator in their catback. The second is a clone of the Evo2 muffler. Yes, they're 2.5" inlets on both. 2.5" is manageable on an n/a car, or get 2.25" piping put between them. 2.5" aluminized mild steel piping with standard crush bends will turn out just fine, and will sound good. With 2.25" piping you would want mandrel bends, but the expensive parts are made of stainless (resonator and muffler) and aluminized piping will last a good long time.

I'll see what I can do.

A friend of mine here in town has a distributor that might be able to send us specs on the exhuast (or at least pictures) so that we can look under my car and see how the flanges will match up.

The less custom work I need to have done, the better (for longevity).

I sent off a couple of e-mails and it looks like Stromung has a cat-back made for the 2.5i's

I've ordered that, I'll post up pics and vids once it's installed.

Thanks again for everyone's help, definitely made this a lot easier for me.
