ok so i plan on running about 5 psi intercooled and an rrfpr. Is a volt clamp needed with this ems. Or is there enough adjustability in this cpu?

The reason you need a voltage clamp is because the pressure sensor that the stock ECU uses freaks out when it sees positive pressure. The Ultimate has a voltage clamp for sure but i am unsure of the regular e-manage.

no, the volt clamp is just so that the stock ECU thinks that everything is ok. If you don't put a volt clamp on then you will get a check engine light from the pressure sensor seeing positive pressure.

You will still need a way to tune, a volt clamp does not tune your car for boost...it just make's it easier to tune. A e-manage ultimate will do everything you need.

The EManage Blue will not be a great choice on your car. The Blue model is an non-interceptor type of piggy back. It can't alter the injector outputs (if memory serves). All it can really do is trick your ECU by adjusting the inputs. It "can" be made to work on your car, but it's far from the best choice.

Facts:
Many people have boosted their NA subaru with just a VC and a RRFPR. The ones that didn't grenade their motor most likely had teh RRFPR setup to go pretty rich. But, there are a fair number that did blow-er-up.

^ + a J&S Safeguard is a reasonable alternative. A fair number of boosted scoobs did very well with this combo. But, the J&S, as kick as as it is, is not cheap either.

Suggestion... don't go cheap and pick up a EManage Blue. I know they can be had for $200. But, I picked up an EManage Ultimate revE (used) for only $400. It took quite a few months to find a good deal, but if you keep watchin' something should popup.

ya i planned on going that route it was just a question as for the j&s safegaurd is that some type of knock sensor and if i wait to get the emanage ultimate will i still need to run that volt clamp or the j&s safegaurd?......

I've been boosting my 100% stock high compression phase II MAP '99 2.2l for almost 5 years now (4 years & 4 months) with just a RRFPR & a V-clamp.
System has evolved to include Methanol Injection, base boost level has always been about 4.5psi, but high boost levels have increased from 6-11psi over the years activated via the push of a button using a HKS EVC Electronic boost controller.

The V-clamp was initially used for limiting the MAP sensor Voltage/signal to the ECU like everyone said, but the SAME thing could have been accomplished using a $5 check valve connected to the MAP sensor (removed from its stock location & plumbed into a I/M vac source with the check valve connected - small block-off plate used to seal the hole left by the missing MAP sensor).

The v-clamp makes a good speed-lcut/imiter/gov. eliminator now, lol....

A medium boost (25ish psi) motor is being built now & real stand-alone E/M will be part of the plan as well

Emanage does work though...

thanks again skidd one more thing i cant find a tuner within 100 miles of me im still looking but its not looking good, if im unable to find one would it be hard to tune it myself my roomate is a mechanic so he can get the a/f monitoring tools but are they hard to tune??
