it might no be that simple. you have to check what sensors u have on each engine (DOHC for the 98 and SOHC maybe on the other car). i would do more research on the engines and keep talking on here. someone is bound to have a straight answer.

if you where swapping a SOHC 2.5 you could swap the intake manifold from the 2.2 and bam use that wiring.

but the DOHC makes things all weird becasue of the sensors and you will have to wire up the 2.5RS wiring

 

The above info is Wrong.
The intake manifold from a '96 2.2l (Phase I) will NOT fit on a SOHC 2.5l motor.

The intake manifold from a '99-01 Phase II will fit on a SOHC 2.5 & vise versa but these are both MAP motors that are VERY different than older motors.

 

nope, figured it out, i pull my 2.2, drop in the 2.5, plug it all in and done.

 

I was just looking at the pinouts for the 96 2.2 and DOHC 2.5 and they are exactly the same, unless I missed something ecu should plug into your 2.2 harness and run the DOHC 2.5. Now the 96 1.8 needs to have two shielded grounds run and the rest is the same.

What about ECU/mapping?

Does the 2.2 have the same map as the 2.5?

 

You already got it, but the intake manifold from a Phase I 2.2 will not fit on a DOHC or Phase II SOHC motor.
Good news is a Phase I SOHC ECU will RUN a PhaseI DOHC motor - you already did it so I'm a little late.

I'm not sure how good a deal the trade was as those old 2.5's are famous for blowing headgaskets - which is probably why your boss traded motors with you.

 

My 99 2.2l is phase II but it is maf, about 99.5 they went to map
