Do you know the rod length of your motor? There are two rod lengths for the EJ251 motor - 131.6 mm and 131.25 mm. If the factory STI piston has a similar compression height compared to its Wiseco counterpart (30.7 mm), then there will not be enough quench clearance.

What is the condition of the rod and main bearings? It seems like you have the block out.

Also what is the condition of the bores? Are you ready for an overbore?

Not sure what you are asking.
Will have brand new STI pistons along with slightly used STi rods. Brand new ACL race bearings.

He's probably asking about bore size because you are using stock sti pistons and you may have to bore your block to make sure its nice and round. You may need larger than oem size pistons depending on how much the block needs to be bored. Now if its within tolerance and just needs honing that would be great.

Do you know the diameter of the sti pistons versus the original non turbo pistons that were in the block?

Boring wil not be needed. Just re-honing of the cylinders which I will get done for $9 a hole (ALOT cheaper than I thought it would be..)
And I dont not know they diameter sizes. But they are the same.. I'm using STI pistons with STI rods. Now if I were using STI pistons with stock rods, then I would ahve a problem.

STock crank. Yes theyre the same. Not sure what the final CR will be, i'm using STi headgaskets though so somewehre close to stock sti

so there really is no modifications needed. slide sti pistons and rods on ej251 crank, sti headgasket and its ready for boost? sounds to simple, i like it.

what bearings do you order? sti or ej251 bearings?

thanks

I went with ACL Race bearings. Best way to go!
Yes, pretty much the only thing you need are different internals. Need to lower the CR for boost. Other than that, you're good to go. Even though it's open deck, it doesn't matter. people say the block isn't strong enough but Skully (member on here) proved that it doesn't play in affect till you get up to 400-500hp I think.

I just used my stock intake manifold. No need to upgrade really. I will be painting mine red though:)
As for the exhaust manifold, you can keep the stock one you ahve now (some people do it because they have a borla header they want to use/keep) but in order for that to happen you need to get custom uppipes and downpipes and all that good stuff. So i'm just sticking with stock sti header. You could get a upgrade header that fits an sti or wrx, but i'm on a budget so:/

Just started! Engine is coming out tomorrow. Fairly easy stuff so far. A lot of organization is needed though! Only thing is the lower trans bolts. Need to get a swivel for that:)

And you already got it! Goodluck with the tear down!

Call if you need anything, anytime bro!
(See you next weekend!)

Proud of myself, did everything by myself!! Was a lot of fun and staying organized haha.

Brought to the machine shop today!!
Things getting done, Re-hone cylinders, hot tank block, resurface flywheel, clean up rods, and polish/check specs on crankshaft.
I shoulod really get my intake manifold ported too, but out of my budget:(

Question: Should I have gotten RS or STI ACL bearings?
Using ej251 block with stock crank. I'm confused with all this thrust bearing issues.
