If you run the appropriate tires, no, you won't see much loss at all. Really depends on the weight of your combo though.

 

I wanted a 17" Prodrive P1 but I have a local seller who has an 18".

Kinda worried about the tires rubbing as well. :-(

performance impact depends on total weight and total diameter/radius, both of which depend heavily on tires. more weight = not good. more diameter = longer gearing = nominally less acceleration, but higher top end and more spacing between gears.

 

i personally think 18's are to big for our cars unless its wide bodied or flared.

On 18s??? Hot dawg that's alot of diameter. 29.5" approximately! Lol that's almost 5" taller than stock

 

18s wont rub the guards. Its how wide the tires are, such as 225 tires will rub. i'm running 18x8 with 215/35 and it doesnt rub.

 

I run 215/40/18's with KYB Agx Shocks and Eibach springs and have no real issues aside from the rears scuffing slightly on serious bumps while carrying heavier loads. I could probably fix that even on the shocks settings. I really don't at all feel like 18's are too big.

 

i think 90% of the people here have a large misunderstanding as to how wheel specs differentiate each wheel.

an 18x8" wheel with a 215/45 tire will be ~half an inch taller than the OEM 205/55/16 16x7 setup and a 215/40 will be ~.2" shorter than OEM. now that tire size has been figured, let's move to offset. the oem 16" wheels on RS's are 16x7 +53. the +53mm means you have ~6.1" of backspace and ~.9" lip (or front space as SOME call it). now let's say you decide to go with this wheel: Wheel Details - Discount Tire Direct that wheel is 18x8 +40. that would give you ABOUT the same amount of backspace and give you an extra inch of lip for a slightly wider stance.

now correct me if i'm wrong, but are you all saying that a wheel with a 1" wider lip will not fit our cars? granted, a slight bit of camber may be required this setup should be fine as long as you aren't running a 255 tire or something equally obnoxious

 

I have 18's, I kind of think they're a little big. They look aggressive as hell though.
