well i know one thing, it sure aint worth it!
what on earth do you know? have you done it?!
Loyale's are one of the lightest subarus to ever hit the market (rivaled only by EA81 Hatches and Brats, and early imp L coupes with no options.), a 4WD AT loyale with driver and full tank of gas will tip the scales at a bit over 2600.....
and, have a shorter front overhang.
and more room in the engine bay. How are you going to get something like this in a new gen engine bay?
and, with the gas tank all the way in the back, it's got a little better weight distribution than the newer gen cars.
huh....sounds like a better candidate than any other subaru. PLUS, they're dirt cheap.
the body is not as stiff as other subarus, but weld up some beefy fender braces, and a strut tower brace that bolts to the firewall....
and the rear suspension is definitely inferior. but that can all be overcome.
anyway, yes, it's possible. wiring is pretty complex, as the EA82 (stock Loyale motor) has one injector, and a distributer. vs any EJ motors electronic ignition and multi-point FI. but mechanically speaking, it's extremely straightforward.
for starters, you'll want to jump on over to
www.ultimatesubaru.org there are tons of older subaru owners there, and you'll find all sorts of info about poly bushings, rear disc brakes, upgraded sway bars etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. there.
then, download the full EA2EJ swap manual (compiled by yours truly...), and read it over. it's catered more towards using a N/A EJ22e, but all of the information is applicable.
http://www.d.umn.edu/~alex0219/Subaru/EA2EJ.pdf
keep in mind, you'll want to find the engine crossmember from a turbo EA82 GL, this will drastically simplify the exhaust routing up to the turbo. it's very possible to route it back around the crossmember and axle up to the turbo in stock location, but it's not the easy way. and if you've got the motor out anyway....
and last, but certainly not least, look up Suberdave on UltimateSubaru. He's got an EJ20G-swapped GL-10 wagon that's extremely hot, running Tein Flex coilovers with EDFC and 17" wheels.
His Website
and my car. '92 Loyale, started life with a 3-speed auto, FWD, and 1.8l EA82 motor. now it's running an EJ22e from a '92 legacy, a dual-range Full-time 4WD RX tranny with matching mechanical rear LSD, rear disc brakes using Nissan 200SX rear calipers (rear handbrake), crappy ebay adjustable coilover springs for an impreza, and much more

Photoshop of what I want it to look like when I'm "done". estimated timeline....3-4 years:
been driving it every day (delivering pizza now) for almost a year....2nd gear puts an ear-to-ear grin on my face every single time.
and guys....if you don't have a clue, don't post. putting an EJ drivetrain in a justy would be stupid difficult (extremely fun when completed, however), but not a loyale.
