I am preparing a 2.2 (MY97) to swap in place of my 1.8 (MY95). It was suggested to use the 1.8 intake manifold including the throttle body, injectors, and the wiring harness to simplify things.
I purchased some new NGK resistor wires from www.sparkplugs.com (NGK redirected me) to the sum of $55 on my front porch.
I removed the 2.2 from the chassis last saturday, and pulled the manifold. I went to my 1.8 and started poking around just for the hell of it, pulled the spark plugs... and saw my $55 going down the pisser. The '95 coil pack is female, with the plug wires being male. The '97 coil pack is the opposite, with the wires as well. The coil packs have a different shape, and their plugs are different.
My question is, can I wire and run the newer coil pack off the older harness and obd1 computer? Both have a three wire plug, but the wires are different colors, and I don't have a wiring diagram to trace.
Standing next to the passenger side tire, looking at the coil pack, reading from left to right (rear of the vehicle to the front) the wires are:
MY95
1. yellow w/ red stripe & green diamonds
2. red w/ yellow stripe
3. yellow w/ white stripe
MY97
1. blue
2. yellow w/ black stripe
3. red w/ green stripe
There may have been slightly different shades of stripes on the MY97 wires, I couldn't tell 100% because they were dirty and the red wire was stripped (don't ask). If I can wire this in, would I just match wire 1 to 1, 2 to 2, and 3 to 3? Did I just waste a day and a half of pay when I could have stuck with the 1.8 wires (assuming the head length is the same)
