hey, i have a 2001 2.5rs with a 04 ej205 and a 98 guage cluster. i was wondering what jdm or ukdm guage clusters i could look at to swap in. i under stand there is a difference between the 98 and 01 clusters that it need to be swapped for the ej205. what is the difference? also any problems i could run into running a ukdm or jdm cluster?

thanks

Why do you have a '98 cluster in a '01, that doesn't make much sense, but to answer some of your questions, the diffrence between the clusters would be that the newer cluster were electronic while your '98 is mechanical.

Although I think I answered some of the questions you may want to wait for someone who actually has done the swap to answer some of the questions.

i beleive the swap was easier with a mechanical cluster? not sure...

MY98's have the white straight-line connectors while the MY99-01's have the green dual row connectors. Anything pre-98 is mechanical. The wiring harness from the engine/trans/ecu to the cluster should have retainted the original connectors (in your case, the 04 model should have come with the green connectors). Is the swap already done or is it still in pieces?

Well, than if you have a US MY98 cluster in your car, than you will need to get a MY98 JDM cluster and you will need to repin the harness to the cluster to get it to work. Here's the thread to the wiring:

You may need the MY98 cluster in order to properly get a working speedo. That's what sucks about the MY98 Impreza's, it's a pain in the ass to swap parts.
