Just get a DIN pocket to fill the blank space.

I'd also replace the speakers too. You might think they sound good, but they really do blow goats.

I'm using a JVC media headunit. 2 USB ports, bluetooth, AUX port, no cd/dvd capabilities. For speakers, using Rockford Fosgate 6" Punch speakers. About $250 setup.

Just about any speakers for $50+ (per pair) is better than the stock. I actually bought some super cheap JVC speakers ($22 shipped per pair) were worse than stock. They now sit in a box, waiting for the day to get put into the car, when I sell it off. If I do.

I'd say try to trace the wires, but that'd be a huge pain. I have no idea what the "premium sound package" is for an RS. Thought all they had was the 4 speakers and powered woofer that was under the seat.

If it has an amp, check the amp. Make sure it's getting power. Check the wires coming out of the amp and then check the wires at the speakers, make sure they match up.

There's also the option of just ripping out the amp and running new speaker wires. My car never had rear speakers, so I had to run new cabling for that. Front speakers had wiring, no probs there.

I replaced the rear speakers about six months ago and it was a PITA! I've been meaning to do a writeup but haven't had the time.

You'll need to remove the rear decklid (the particle board shelf piece) in order to replace the speakers. In order to get it out I had to pop off the C-pillar pieces a bit. Additionally, you'll want to pop off the clips that hold the decklid down in order to remove it. I didn't know that and broke a few of the clips and part of the decklid. You can pop them off from inside the trunk. They look like little yellow arrows IIRC and they need to be pinched and pushed up through the holes. It would be helpful to have someone inside the car holding the decklid up while you pop the clips back through (so they don't drop right back down and re-seat themselves in their respective holes.

I hope that makes sense. If not, PM me and I can try to provide additional clarification. I'll also try to snap some pics and put together a formal writeup in the near future.

IIRC, there's also a bit on Scoobymods.com that was helpful.

I just pulled on the speaker cover, little by little, until I found the locations of the clips that were holding it down. Then I yanked the crap out of them. I didn't care, since my speakers came with their own clips and screws.

From there, unscrewed the speakers and tossed them. Popped in the new speakers and screwed them in place. I could only get 2 screws in place. I could get more, but I'd have to remove the metal plate and drill new holes.

That isn't hard to do, only 3 bolts to undo. All I'd have to do is pry the decklid cover up, then prop it up with something. I did that anyways, since my Rockfords came with a plastic plate that can replace the metal one.

I put that plate in place to see how it was, but it felt super flimsy, so I just chucked it.
