Hopefully if everything goes well in the next two days I will be closing on a buy on a 2011 WRX Limited. This deal is way to good, 6k under MSRP with 1,700 mi on the car with no lien on the title. This will be my fourth Subaru! as you can see, I am a fanboy. I will keep you posted as news come on in brah!

2010+ WRX is faster then STi. And for all practicality, if your not on the track constantly, an STi is not worth it. Is the 6spd and 40 extra horsepower worth the extra $10k?

For my daily driving, I don't need an STi. Better yet, I have this thing called a warranty; I plan to use that. The new WRX are putting out the same number as the STi on the track. It's even faster then a STi on the 1/4 mile.

Yes, with the STi you get 6spd, DCCD, pillow ball up front, 40 extra hp, brembo brakes. But here is the thing, to even get moonroof, fog lights, heated seats, that is an extra $5k on the already base price $35,000 STi. So $40,000 for a fully loaded STi compare to a fully loaded Premium for $28,000. No thank you.

Guys, please don't turn this in to a "you should have bought" thread. If you don't like what he bought, be polite and just don't say anything.

Congrats. :) You bought it in the best color, too! ;) I personally prefer the hatchback, but that's a nice car, you'll love it. The 2009+ WRX is such a huge improvement over the 2008.

The 2011 WRX is faster than the 2011 STI, by about 0.2 secs on the 1/4 mile. Same with 0-60 times. To be expected, since the STI has a 6 speed and requires more shifting in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Course, the WRX doesn't grip the road as well as the STI. Made even worse with the STI's SI-Drive. At least on the track.

Everyday drivers, need not bother with an STI. Save your $10k. That or go with a 2008 STI, which is better than the 2011 STI (uglier, but better performance).

Today's WRX is a very good car. If you plan to just DD it, it's the best choice over the STI. If you plan to track the car, go with the STI. If you plan to fix up the car, depends on what you're doing I guess. The STI has better suspension and better brakes, but if you're replacing them anyways, just get the WRX. If you want to up the power, go with the STI for the forged internals and 6-speed.

I have a 6 year warranty I plan on using. :) I'm not like them Nabisco guys with brand new 2011-2012 who puts parts on their cars and then comes back crying that Subaru doesn't honor their warranty.

And yes, its my DD + suspension mods. I need that bigger RSB - 22mm. Besides that, pretty much stock until the warranty expires. I agree, I use to have a 2005 STi and I can say that there is no WRX that can compare to a STi, even the 2011-2012 WRX. The six speed is great (the STi is slower because its heavier by the way and not because of the six speed) and the Brembo brakes are just awesome. Yes, the DCCD and S-drive is great as well, but I cannot make a financial commitment for an extra $12,000 dollars for a Limited STi. That comes to an extra $100 a month I am paying for my WRX, which I pay $400 even a month. Luckily I only pay $90 a month for full coverage (27 years old and clean record :) ). So in total I would have to pay $600 a month for an STi and insurance not including GAS and other bills. Just saying.

I definitely wouldn't touch anything on the car until the warranty is up. Except maybe new wheels, but the WRX wheels are already pretty sweet. Definitely better than the ugly STI wheels, unless you get an STI Limited, but I can't justify that extra price hike on it. Not for things I don't even care about.

Now if the STI tS came to the states, I'd definitely get that, simply for the weight savings. Course, doubt we'll ever see that.

I already own 3 cars. Also, I'm the type who really doesn't want to spend more than $10k on a car. I wouldn't have a problem putting more than that into a car, but dropping down close to $40k on a car, only to dump even more money into it later. I'd rather wait to get it later.

Luckily, I'm from Idaho. The only ppl who can afford an STI are older people who got all the racing out of their system. So they aren't going to be the abused type that you end up seeing a lot on the east coast. You know, the kind that have already blown an engine/tranny or is close to it. Even the WRX isn't affordable for anyone under 25. People there simply don't make enough, since Idaho has a low cost of living, pay is also lower.

I'm also always broke. I'm putting $1k a month into my 401k. Been contemplating on closing my old TSP, paying off all my bills, then rolling over the rest into my 401k. Then upping how much I put into my 401k. Last thing I want to be doing is working when I'm old.

krotch should probably gtfo of this thread. for the money, the wrx limited is NICE. has nearly all the speed and features of the STI without the price premium (i bet the insurance is a bit cheaper too). plus for not much money you can do a 4pot brake upgrade, even brembos if you want, and gain some of that braking power that they are lacking. the cars are big and heavy and yet still 2pots :(

I think like a lot of people, I only share that sentiment when it comes to used cars that I get for dirt cheap. Since I'm not paying much, luxuries are irrelevant, I'll take what I can get. But when you're buying a NEW car, no reason not to expect to get your damn money's worth. Why buy a new car and then skimp on the stuff you want? You've already decided to spend the money, so now you have literally any car you want to pick from, why not get one that has luxuries? After driving shitbox imprezas for years (and loving every minute of it) I decided since I could afford more, my next car/project would have fog light, keyless entry, sunroof, and cruise control. Because why the fuck not? It's no new car, but im building up a 99 legacy gt limited

Not everyone cares about luxuries, that's about the only reason to not bother getting them. Course on these cars, I can't even build them the way I want anyways.

No moon/sunroof, no keyless entry, no power locks, no power windows, no ABS, no Airbags, no stereo, no cruise control, cloth seats (not leather), etc. Pretty much the only luxury I even want on my car is powered mirrors and an alarm. I buy a car to drive, I don't buy it to live in.

At the same time, not everyone wants a bland car. Some ppl want half the luxuries, some want all of them.

airborne i think you made a great choice. great looking car and all that. AND you got it for only 28k. Not too bad. When the 6 year warranty runs out you can happily mod it to be "as good as an STi"!

Sick of people bagging on a guy who bought a subaru. He bought a wrx that he wanted. Don't try and rain on his parade. Like really? IT'S A FUCKING CAR. and its his not yours!

+100

So what if he didn't get an STI, it's a great choice. Try to find a car for 28K with as much bang for your buck. And don't give me some lame fanboi bullshit about how you can buy a gc6 for 4K, swap it for under 5 K, and be alot faster- it's still not the same. Turn key fun, reliability, creature comforts, and warranty.

Airborne, congrats on your purchase man! Great choice, great DD, money well spent. I too am contemplating a '11WRX to my fleet (that is, if I ever get rid of my 3rd car)
