Car won't start unless I wiggle shifter (automatic tranny)

Hello,
My 05 Impreza RS Automatic has an issue where at sometimes it won't start unless I wiggle the shifter. Looking over the parts list @

SELECTOR SYSTEM. SELECT LEVER '04MY-'06MY.. Fits: 2005 Subaru Forester XT Sports | Subaru Parts Online

I'm thinking I need : 35132AE000 (on diagram : 35131A)

However I notice there is a selenoid : 35173SA000 (on diagram : 35173)

Any suggestions on what to do? When the issue emerges I notice that going left to right doesn't usually fix it, going up and down does which doesn't line up with the way the switch works. Thanks for any thoughts.

You can be sure by taking the shifter trim apart and manually pressung the safety seitch button down to see if thats the problem.

if pushing the safety switch button down fixes it that means its the solenoid?

Yes, it means that part you pushed is bad. There's one for the brake and one to make sure the car is in neutral/park. From the information you have provided I can assume the brake switch is working.
