Technically I didn't break 3rd gear. I actually had the car for 5 days and was driving moderate. I was in 3rd gear and heard a noise very faintly so I sped up slowly to hear it better and bam followed by lots of rattles and other noises. Bye bye no more 3rd gear.

My question to everyone is!!!!! What should I do? Take it apart and rebuild 3rd and whatever else looks like it is gonna go out? Buy another used 2002 Transmission? Buy a different year transmission? jdm transmission? Right now my car is getting the transmission dropped and it will be opened to see the damage. So, if anyone feels like steering me in the right direction I would love it. I don't want to spend 2k + on gears or pay for an 6spd. Trying to fix what is a common problem with 2002 5spd transmissions.

My plans aren't to keep the car for ever. Probably drive it for a year at the most. Anyone know where to get a 2002 WRX 5spd transmission or a place to get different gears maybe.

I will post a wanted ad on Nasioc. Just thought maybe someone could help on here.

First find out what the dmg is. It's possible it was just a syncro or something and hopefully the soft brass syncro didm't hurt the hard steel gears. You may just need a rebuild. If there are damaged parts you may be able to get just the parts you need from a transmission rebuild shop.

Well my mechanic can't source gears so he doesn't want to take the transmission down and open it up without knowing I will pay for a used transmission if I need to. I currently don't have 2000-2,500 to pay for labor and a used transmission.
