2006 WRX, slowing down

I actually have a few questions and I can't find much on brand new WRX's yet. I put a short ram on my WRX and it was great for a little while but now it seems as though the turbo just isn't kicking in like it should. I'm thinking of putting the stock back on for now. I want to order a CA intake but I don't want to waist money if it's going to do the same thing. "Oh, has anyone heard of the new 77 series K&N? It's supposed to be friggin awesome. Just putting that out there.) The check engine light isn't on so I know it's not that. I love this car and just want it to work like it did when I bought it ya know. I only have 2600 miles on it so it's still brand new. Also, one problem I'm facing is finding upgrades to it. I've looked all over the internet but most stop at '05. From what I've been told, they did change up the engine a bit from the regular WRX (not STI) from '05 to '06. The individual that informed me of this stated that he thought the turbo had been placed in a different location and thought that it was almost an mirror image of the '05 STI. I'm not sure and I don't have any friends that have an STI and walking up to someone in the parkinglot asking to look under they're hood just hasn't come accross my mind yet heh. Either way I'm looking to do quite a bit to it over the next few months. I'm thinking boost controller,(manual or Elec not sure what's best yet) Catback (I think I need to get a new up and down pipe though) BOV, CA intake, Fuel rail and turbo timer. Any suggestions on good but not overpriced items that I've mentioned. I'll try and put a couple of engine pic's on here so anyone experienced can see what I mean about the turbo placement. I appreciate all your help and you can guarantee that when I get back from Iraq, I'll be dumping a little more money into it. Thanks for reading my novel and any help you can offer. Take care

Yeah, the 06 WRX has a 2.5L engine, instead of a 2.0L like the 02-05 did, so you'll probably have to wait for the companies to develope new parts that work with the new engine. Now, the big question is, is it not kicking like it used to, or have you just gotten used to the extra umph the mods have given you? I'm guessing that's probably all it is. Oh, and this site is focused more on the older 2.5RS, although there are people here with WRX swaps, so there is info around, but for a site that has more WRX-specific info, www.thesti.com , www.nasioc.com , and www.i-club.com might be some other places to look. I'm not saying to ignore this place, it's great, but check out the other places, too.

didn't realize the older Rs. woops :)

Well as far as the umph in it, before I put the shorty on it, first and second gears I could really feel the kick in of the turbo at around 3000rpm, now in both but mostly in second, it still gets up there quick but it doesn't really kick in it kinda climbs steadily. Does that help? And thanks for the forums www's by the way

Don't worry, just because this is mostly older RS's, doesn't mean we can't help, we're all Subaru guys and gals, and know a bit about all of them. Especially since we all want the turbo engines! As for the turbo not kicking in like it used to, it could be the ECU has learned the new intake, and is able to make smoother power. It might actually be as fast, if not faster, but with smoother power, it feels slower. Like my car, with the AVO turbo kit on it putting out 4 psi, doesn't really feel tons faster than before, but it pulls hard and strong, I think it's just that the turbo spools so dang quick, that there isn't the turbo kick, just lots of smooth power delivery. A car with lots of turbo lag might feel fast because of the big kick, but could actually be slower than a car with smoother power delivery that might "feel" slower.

Nice

I guess I could take it to a dyno and see what happens. I mean this car is awesome and I will do plenty to it when I get back from the desert again. I might still ask you a few things though if ya don't mind when I get upgrades. Do you know off the top of your head what voids warranty and what doesn't though? l8r

Reflash?

ok I'm new into this but what is a "reflash" and are you saying that adding the STI intercooler alone from stock will give it the 300whp or along with the exhaust I mentioned before? I'll set up a pic here soon too. The only body I'm going to do is a new bumper so I don't see the entire muffler all the time lol. Thanks again
