This thread will throughly describe the process of up grading any 5x100 Subaru (excluding the 04 sti) to that of 2006/07 wrx.
If ANYONE has any questions, comments, or suggestions for revisions feel free to pm
The parts you will need:
Left and Right rear calipers and pads for a 2006/07 wrx sedan or wagon.
Rear brake rotors for 2006/07 wrx.
Rear dust shield backing plate for 2006/07 wrx.
Tools you will need:
Vehicle lift or floor jacks.
Large wrench or impact gun with 19mm socket or equivalent tool to remove lug nuts.
32mm axle nut socket
3/8 ratchet, air ratchet, or impact gun.
12mm and 14mm sockets.
10mm, 12mm, and 14mm, open end wrenches.
chisel punch
hammer
supplies you will need:
Brake fluid
Penetrating oil
anti seize
thread lock
new copper brake line washers(4 in total)
All right! Now that you have all your stuff it is time to begin.
Step 1
Park the vehicle on level surface and raise off the ground to an appropriate working level.
After lifting the vehicle, shake violently to ensure it is stable and safe.
Step 2
Remove the wheel.
Step 3
Remove the 2 14mm bots that mount the caliper to the dust shield backing plate.
Step 4
Remove the caliper and hang it on the rear suspension components so that the rubber brake line is not stressed. Then remove the brake rotor.
Step 5
Remove the parking brake.
This will be broken down for you.
A. Remove the yellow spring
B. Remove the blue spring and the steel triangular retainer behind them(note it's orientation)
C. Remove the shoes retainers(one on each shoe)
D. Pull the tops of the shoes outward and slid down to clear the hub. Be careful not to loose the park brake adjuster and spring at the bottom of the shoes.
F. Pull back the coil spring on the parking brake cable to release it from the trailing shoe.
Step 6
Remove the axle nut.
Step 7
Remove the 12mm bolt that retains the Wheel Speed Sensor. (WSS) Take care not to crack the WSS body while removing.
Step 8
Remove the inner wheel hub. This will require hub puller tool that can mount to the hub studs and secure with lug nuts. Then pushes on the axle and pushed the inner hub outward. Part of the bearing race and the outer seal will come with it. Take car not loose a bearing ball when doing this. I would highly recommend replacing the wheel bearing at this point anyway.
Step 9
Remove the 4 bolts that mount the dust shield backing plate to the outer hub assembly. Disconnect the parking brake cable retainer and pull it through.
Step 10
Clean the outer hub surface or dirt and rust. Then mount the new 06/07 dust shield backing plate and pass the parking brake cable through the shield and install retaining clip.
Step 11
Re install the inner hub by applying anti seize to the cv shaft and lightly tap it into the bearing. Be careful not to hit the lugs and damage the threads. Once it is in far enough, thread the axle nut and run it down until it is tight. Notch the axle nut into the key slot on the axle shaft. Not the seal is not seated into the outer hub. Use a flat blade to evenly push seal back into its regular position.
If you have replaced the wheel bearing you will have already removed the old race and seal from the inner hub and already installed them into the outer hub.
Step 12
Re install the parking brake hard ware in the reverse order of removal.
Step 13
Reinstall the WSS
Step 14
Install the the new 06/07 wrx rotor and adjust the parking brake.
Step 15
Mount the 06/07 caliper to the new dust shield backing plate
Step 16
Remove the brake line from the old caliper. Place your new copper washers on the bolt and thread onto the new caliper. Tighten until you can feel the copper washers compress slightly. Do not over tighten and strip the caliper.
Step 17
Bleed the system.
Step 18
STOP!
