does anyone know if this is true?

I really want to swap out the piece of an 02 WRX console that has the cup holder near the E-brake, because I really want a USEABLE cupholder. Does anyone know if this is a direct fit, or will I need the whole center console, or maybe a complete interior swap?

I've put an '04 WRX console in my '99RS with the '99 dash, heater controls etc. It requires a ton of "plastic whittling" to make it work. I had to trim ~6" off the front of the bottom part of the console, and all along the top edge of the bottom part up to the storage bin below the ashtray. I also had to trim the top part of the console where it meets up with the dash. In the end, the storage bin below the ashtray winds up being about 1/2" narrower than the opening for the ashtray and lighter.

Once you trim the front of the console, all the holes to attach the console to the body line up perfectly, along with the e-brake handle. The mirror adjustment switch in the new console has the same plug as the original so it works fine.

its very hard. i just finished my dash swap. if you just want a new dash its not worth it. you have to walll out alot of holes in the dash bar. and theres a horrible gap on both left and right side where the pillars meet the dash. if you havea full swap to do its worth it less wiring of hvacs and easier fitment.now i dont know if you can use the rs blower or anything but with a 02+ wrx heatercore you have to cut holes for the ac and heater hoses.and only about 2-3 holes line up in the swap but you if your a mad fabricator its easy but not for the faint of heart.ill post pics up tomarow of weird fitment issues

here are some pictures of the dash in. you have to cut and drill alot of stufff.like cut the firewall for heater core and ac line,re drill both left and right side of dash bar to fit the larger dash. there is gaps on the driver and passenger side due to bigger dashboard.
the center console will not line up with the bolt holes of the chassis due to the dashboard pushing it back.now this is just my ghetto rigged setup other people have done there dash swaps alot better then mine..ps wrinkle red has alot of over spray so my dash piece got overspray thats why it looks pink heres pics
