I installed my Cobb Street Cams yesterday and noticed when i turn the car on and when it idles I can hear a ticking coming from the engine. Im guessing its from the valves. Is this a normal sound when cams are done or are the clearances off and i need to readjust the valve clearances? Also should i avoid from getting on the throttle with these cams for a while for them to break in or is it ok to open it up a little right after the cams are in? any info would be a great help thanks.

as mentioned above subie engines all have valve tick, kinda annoying but normal. and as for cam break in yeah you wanna take it easy (pretty much like a new car break in) i've heard to keep it below 4,000 rpm and drive at a steady/constant speed or rpm as much as possible for 500-1,000 miles then you can open er' up!

Well yeah, you'll never completely get rid of it, mostly because it's not just valvetrain causing it. But the valve noise is loudest and a lash adjustment will get rid of that. Most of the ticking, at least in my car, comes from the timing cover (most likely the tensioner) and has done it from day 1 when the car had less than 10 miles on it.

90% of the noise people here comming from engines is the injectors clicking. It resonates back through the intake manifold, so it sounds like its comming from other places. You will need your valves adjusted. I would have done that before you started the engine with the new cams. Because the base circle and everything is different for every set of cams that is produced. Its like when you put new cams in a WRX head, you have to buy new shims for the cams to bring the tolerences back to factory spec. If the tick doesnt go away after you adjusted and its still very loud, you might have bent a valve from not adjusting it properly and shoving the valve into the piston.
