I recently purchased a 98 2.2L OBS for my wife and she loves it. I was looking at all the cool pics you guys have of your cars and was wondering if you guys can send me a list of mods ( body, engine, electrical, etc.) that can be done to my car, um, I mean my wife's car. :) If it's not too much to ask, can you all also give me a price list of some sort based on what you all paid for your mods. Web links welcomed. Thanks in advance. You guys Rock!!

I just dropped a good chunk of change at www.teaguesauto.com. They stock just about everything you'll need to get started boosting your wagon. I spoke to Dale, the owner, on the phone for quite a while - the guy is super knowledgable and races using many of the parts he sells.

My mods:
Perrin rear sway bar
rear end links
Cusco rear subframe brace
Super Pro lateral link bushings
trailing arm bushings
steering rack bushings
ball joints
Sun Auto Hyper Voltage system
WRX 16" wheels

I'm still missing a few things, suspension wise, but I'm broke enough right now. Still, once you begin, the temptation is always strong...

Here's my list more or less in order of how I'm doing it.

2.5RS front brake rotors and calipers
'02 2.5 (WRX) 16" alloy wheels
Subaru Rubber mats
Subaru Fog Light kit
Map Light
Upgraded struts and spings (not decide which ones yet)
Functional Hood Scop mod
Underdriven Lightweight Pulley Set
Borla header
Custom 2" resonated midpipe

Here is my mod list in the order it was done:

Kartboy SS/bushings - $125
Smoked sidemarkers - $30
Clear corner lamps - $80
17" Rotas with 215/45/17 Sumitomo HTR Z 2s - $1000
De-racked roof - free
Eibach/SPD springs - $225
KYB AGX struts - $390
RS/Ver. 5 front bumper with fog light covers (no lights) - don't remember
Clear turn signals - $50
car painted all white - varies from shop to shop
Momo shift knob - $75
STi Ver. 5 steering wheel - $375 from SPDUSA.com
USDM WRX front brakes - free (I got lucky and friends donated parts)
STi Ver. 3 drivetrain swap - $11K
rear drum to disc conversion - inc. in drivetrain swap price
ScoobySport turbo back exhaust - $1000
OEM Subaru 18mm rear sway bar - $75
Cusco front and rear strut tower braces - $250
McCulloch HID kit - $350
STi Ver. 2 front and rear seats - $1000

It all depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend.

Suspension mods are definitely near the top of the list for "fun-per-dollar" mods. IMO, the Kartboy shifter should be EVERYONE'S first mod.

After that decide if you want to upgrade looks or power first.

Have fun

Hey DSMAWD, where exactly did you find your parts @. Do you have any pics? GUYLR how did you go about getting you hood scoop functional? That sounds very interesting. The only thing that worries me about that is getting the engine too dirty. (no protection from the elements) Maybe I'm just thinking that cause I don't know how the mod functions. I'm really interested in getting my suspension upgraded. I look forward to to the replies. Thanks again.

Which parts are you referring to?

Yup, there are pics of my car in the OBS pics thread below this one.

Here's one:

Is there a general rule to go by about which parts will work with the 2.2L? Of course nobady specifically lists the OBS in application charts, but in general, should most stuff for the 01' RS25 bolt on?

Mainly wondering about exaust.

Thanks.

Actually dsmawd I'm really interested in the supsension at the moment. I don't have that much $ @ the moment but would like to create a game plan for when the $ becomes availabel. Maybe nock out a few mods on the way. Hey, by the way, your car is pretty fly. I likes!

ummmm, I believe our front calipers and rotors are the same as the rs'??

Ya, almost everything that would fit a 2.5 rs will fit any impreza, unless you have a 2.2L with a single port exhaust manifold in which case you'll have to get different headers which are a waste of money anyway.

If you're interested in suspension, I recomend an adjustable rear sway bar and end links as a first mod.

Yes, OBS rotors up to 2001 were 10.1" in diameter and the calipers were single piston. In 2002 the OBS and 2.5TS got the same front brakes as the RS.

The two piston RS calipers will bolt right up to the early and early OBS caliper support brackets however.

Yup, OBS = 10.1" rotors and single piston calipers in the front; RS = 10.7" rotors and 2 piston calipers.

bennettsweb, all the catbacks for 2.5RSs will work fine on the OBS. As Ben stated earlier, headers *could* be a problem, and probably aren't worth it on the EJ22, anyway.

Suspension parts for any 93-01 Impreza will work on the OBS just fine. The OBSs have the same struts as the RSs, they just have taller (and possibly softer) springs. A rear sway bar is an excellent first mod and for ~$80, very affordable.

Sorry, Ben. I don't have any engine bay pics. If you do a search in the Midwest forum on NASIOC, mykrrrr might have some floating around. He's the new owner of the "turbo fridge". ;)

I'll turbo fridge you!!:curse: :curse:

So do you know if the L's use the same rotors and calipers are the same as the OBS?

The OBS is such a great little car.
Here's mine with very minimal mods. I heart it :)

Paranoid Fabrications Grounding Mod
Perrin Adjustable Rear Sway Bar
H&R Sport Springs
WRX Wheels
Little random things...
There's much more info on my website and it'll come to be quite an OBS archive of knowlegde :)

About the brake parts.
I've ran a quick search but could not find much on rotor sizes. However, from countless projects done i can tell you with 99% accuracy that 93-01 front rotors are same size, and all calipers (on abs models for sure) are 2 pod in the front.

The next mod on my car is about 3/4 done.
The Functional Hood Scoop Air Intake. I've got the scoop intake mounted and working. I only need to finish running the original intake into the fender and I'll be getting cool air bottom and top. Here's the gallery link to see how it looks so far>
http://number6.homelinux.net:8080/gallery/album34

I wasn't going cut up my airbox because retail on the back cover is $103!!! But then I found a part number for the cover from the '99 Non-California Emissions part and it was only $25 including tax! The only difference in the two parts is that the stock '01 cover has a 3.5mm drain hole (see photo)

So far it sounds good and my tail tells me the torque is stronger in the 3000-4000 rpm range. It might just be the "sound of power" but hey, I can always go back to stock in about 10 minutes.

Interesting idea, did you remove the silencer from the fender too?

Info taken directly from here:

http://www.cars101.com/impreza_archive97_98.html#1998 Impreza

OBS MY98
Front: 10.1" vented,
rear:9.0" drum
4 channel ABS

RS MY98
Front: 10.7" vented disc with dual caliper pistons,
rear:10.5" solid disc
4 channel ABS

Now, it doesn't specifically say that the OBS does NOT have 2 piston calipers, but the RS says 2-piston calipers and it doesn't say anything about the # of pistons in the OBS caliper. I'm pretty certain that they are single piston, even with the 4 channel ABS.
