Hay guys and girls I have a 96 impreza lx with a EJ22 motor and rs tranny on it. I was just wondering if there is anything else I could do to make more power? its like my car has NO power for seiit. I dont know if it would work but is it possibl to put wrx heads on my motor? if so what do I have to put on to make it work.

What mods have you done so far? You should consider polish and porting the heads and intake manifold. Maybe send in your cams to deltacams for a NA regrind. I have an ej22 and it seems really torquey for what it is. I'm going to mod the shit out of it until the motor dies out on me.

All I have is short ram intake, header (I think its some Borla rip offs), exhaust, ACT stage 1 clutch, Hyper Voltage system, and a Apex SAFC.

I have no torque and my take offs are slow.... I think its my sti rims and v6 wing thats making my car heavy so it dont move very fast. I have a carbon bonnet and im thinking of the jdm front bumper beam but its lik my car is heavy and sad... its like I have a fat chick haha...

Unfortunately, there aren't many N/A mods that you can do that would really make a big difference on an EJ22. Unless you spend the money to do what Trix suggested, but that isn't cheap. So all of the little mods, such as pulleys aren't that bad of an idea.

Getting a remapped ECU would be one of the biggest improvements, you just might lose some gas mileage. There are tons of things that can be done to an N/A motor, it's just how much are you willing to spend. Know what I'm sayin'?

If your take offs are slow you might want to check out your spark plugs, wires, and fuel filter. Also how many miles are on your car? My friend on here Puppy Eater has over 300k miles on his ej22 and his wagon is really slow and has hardly no torque under 3500rpm. I would suggest maybe Lucas gas additive and seafoam through your PCV valve. After you have everything up to maintenance I would highly suggest resetting your ecu. Start your car and let it idle for 15 minutes. some say 30 minutes.

Here's a video of me taking off 1st gear with out launching. It has plenty low end torque. It has enough low end that I play in snow in 2nd gear instead of 1st gear in parking lots.

ooh yeah I also have a light crank pully haha for got about that also I took out my ac system all of it in the engine bay. change out my fuel filter already, I have around 98k miles on the motor also how do you reset your ecu? I never change the wires yet just the spark plugs so I guess I should try out the wires sometime this week... is there any type of wire brand I should go for that would do best.

To reset your Ecu just disconnect your negative on your battery. let it sit for 20 minutes. It helps if you pump your brakes a little. After the wait connect your batter then it should be reset.

OEM wires are best. I run subaru oem wires with NGK Iridium spark plugs.

is there anyother mod I can do to make it quicker?
I know im running I think the original wires so it does need to be changed. but ill hae to wait till Friday thats when I get paid so I hope that will help. ^^

cam sound good but this is my only ride. unless I take some from the junk yard and ship it down to deltacams. is there anything else that I dont need to put my car down for a week? if not then I guess I can save up for a wrx motor but for now I just want more power with out me reaching deep into my pocket.

I thought I would try to bring this back from the dead cause well, I want to know  . Anyway, I have been reading into the PP6 as a source of EM on my EJ22 (97') and I am all for buying it if I know for sure that it will make a big difference down the road when I am done building my engine. My plans are as follows:

EJ22T Block
EJ22E Heads
EJ22E Valves
Multi Angle Valve Job
EJ22T Valve Springs
EJ22T Cams (Stock)
Borla Headers/Reps
LW Crank Pulley
An AFC Of Some Sort
Full 2.25 Exhaust W/ Flowmaster 44
CAI (More Than Likely Custom)

If there are any parts that I am missing to properly do this build please do not hesitate to throw hints my way as I am a Noob to engine building and have pretty much pieced this together by the use of SEARCH on this forum. Also if anything to this build does not add up to a running engine please let me know as this will be my first attempt at building an engine and I am kinda nervous as it is. Thanks ahead of time.

buy a cheap chinese turbo, then weld yourself up a custom uppipe, get a tmic from a wrx, hook up a boost guage and an oil pressure guage, and get a 4 or 5 lb wastegate actuater. it'll cost you <$350, and it adds some good pull. when you get heads, engine manegement, injectors, a fmu, a fuel pump, and lowered compression, you can add up to 15lbs like me and have a very quick car.

An EJ22T and its stock crank, rods, pistons, and head gaskets is going to give you low compression because it is an engine made for a turbo. Might as well use your stock EJ22 to build off of if you want high compression. Going with EJ18 heads will give you a higher CR though. Also using the EJ22T cams and springs are made for a turbo engine/heads so you are better without those. I don't think anything EJ22T is worth using if you are looking for high compression

I would use the EJ22e headgasket, along with RS 2.5 factory cams, and I am guessing if I am going with those cams then the factory valve springs etc should be good enough for the build. The block will end up being my 2.2 block currently in my OBS. My build above has been revised a little, lol.
