I have seen a few of those kits. I think they are great.

This is from wayyyy wayyy back in the day. When the first kits came out. Before the after market engine management was affordable. (itc, j/s and RRFPR were what people used to keep knock away)

but heres what it sounds like. btw, its not me. But 2 very very old i-club/nasioc members.
sound of a ludespeed rs-t

look into a v1 ludespeed engine bay.

before you freak. Its very loud. That is NOT normal. this guy had a few problems with his first motor and he decided to go ahead with the install anyways. So its a good deal louder then it should be.

none the less, I think its a great lit. If I had to get a turbo it it would be either Lude or FAT.

PLEASE do some searching and find more current customers. 8Complex bought our 4th kit we ever made. Needless to say they have come a long way since then. Even if you ask Nick (8Complex) his opinion, he is still happy with his kit.
But anyway, there are a few people here that have bought kits and are happy with them. It doesn't matter which kit you get for any car, there are going to be minor issues that come up because of the size of the task of putting turbo on a factory NA car. But all in all, the kits do thier job.

Most customers spool by2500 rpm, 3000 is very uncommon and there is usually another problem that causes that.

You can email me for more info if you like.

Thanks,
Tom

I bought Tom's kit last year and I must say it's very reliable. I put little over 30,000 miles on the car with his kit already. I Highly recommend his kit especially since it has engine management and injectors included in the kit. It's a very complete kit.

I had Tom Install it for me. At 6 psi's it's very fast. At the track when it was hot I ran a 13.9et being easy on the first 2 gears. My links plus wasn't even tuned very well. I never got a boost controller so I don't even know the full potential. I think you will be very happy with the kit if you decide to buy it.

Tom also installed my kit 2 weeks ago. I run it at 7psi. I think this is the best kit for the buck. I drove from Florida to NY with no problems and I was beating on it.:boxer: Smoked an M3 on my way home. I would recomend the kit to anyone who is unsure of what to buy. Very professionaly done. Needed a little fine tuning but thats expected.

so this engine can take 7PSI of boost regularly driven without blowing? i have a minnam stage 2 kit set at a little under 5PSI on my 99RS. I just bought the car and im still kind of worried about reliability. As of now, the car runs rich and is in bad need of a tune, but after that, you think 5PSI is safe? the car has 02WRX fuel pump, 01WRX injectors, safc, sitc, j&s safeguard, knock link, boost, a/f, and egt gauges. it also has a TMIC and a greddy type s BOV.

you think i should be safe to run it?

The safest way to go is to get the Link Plus ECU. I made testruns several times I had the laptop hooked up to it and diagnosed the results. No detenation was detected. I'm learning how to tune and I have to tell you the interface for the link- PC is very user friendly (I wouldn't go turbo without one). The engine could take 7psi even 9psi if tuned right but you have to be careful with the transmission. I know that 00-01 Impreza RS has the same transmission as the WRX but I hear that even WRX guys keep blowing their tranny with no mods. My next thing is to get gear sets.

The stock motor is pretty darn strong. I know of MANY people that have been running 9psi for over a year with no motor damage. The key is to have it tuned correctly.
On the other hand, I know about 5 people that did not have it tuned anywhere near correctly and blew a piston at 4psi.

Tranny life depends on how you treat it. If you do 4-wheel burnouts and slam the gears when shifting and it won't last long. But again, there are several people that drive real cool-headed and thier tranny lasts a long time.

With your setup, you should be okay **IF TUNED CORRECTLY**

According to all the WRX people, the trannies are the weakest part of the car. My brother has an 03 WRX so he is in a WRX club and it seems that every week or so, another person blows their tranny (first and/or second gear usually). There are many people running 6-speed STi-RA trannies and loving them

I also, am thinking about the LudeSpeed kit (Stage 2 because I want to turbocharge the car early but don't have the loot for Stage III). Does this kit work on an EJ22? Is there anyway to adapt it to the 2.2L? Thanks.

#20 ·
Ben,

the kit will fit on the 2.2L motors if you have the dual port heads. Some 2.2 motors have a single exhaust port on each head. The kit will not fit on the single port motors.
You can look under your motor at the header. If there are 2 pipes that come out of the head and then merge into one, then you have the dual port motor and the kit will fit.

i ordered the stage III from tom about 3 weeks ago (in the group buy) - got some parts in the mail already and can't wait to get the whole deal... i've wanted a turbo since i bought my car 1.5 yrs ago and now it's finally happening... i'm going to document the whole deal with video and put something together... keep and eye on www.xs-rs.com - pics write ups etc...

but i did my homework - bang for the buck ludespeed all the way. injectors, link plus, awesome customer service can't be it. i plan on running 9psi so we'll see what happnes.

Cheers!

That's a great idea. I'd love to see that with video and pics and a little play-by-play of how it all goes to together.
