could be any number of things, more specific on the type of noise please. is it like a bearing going bad noise? do you think its coming from the engine or tranny or driveline? could be normal valve tick noise on all scoobs. could be a heatshield rattle on the exhaust or something touching do to you changing exhaust components? lots of things...

does it only happen when on the gas?
does it go away when clutch is pushed in?
does it only happen when coasting/engine braking?

Haha... noises and Subaru go together :)

Here is a run down of the normal ones -
* When you just start the car, the engine will make all kinds of noise while it's cold... piston slap.
* When you press the clutch to put it into gear, it will squeak, either from the pedal, the slave cylinder, or the shifter fork... or all three! The pressure plate can also make a clicking sound.
* As you slide the shifter into gear, it will make all kinds of crunching under the car.
* When you give it gas to back up, your heatshields will rattle, squeak, and generally make a racket.
* As you drive off the driveway, the chassis will flex making all kinds of creaking.
* As you're driving away, going over bumps, you will hear knocking from the shocks. Especially the rears and especially if you have AGXs.
* Once again, the heat shields will sound like a bunch of cans dragging behind your car every time you shift.
* As you get on the freeway, there will probably be some weird whistling noise from the windows, you can tune the pitch to your liking using the heater fan.
* While cruising, you can also enjoy the whine from the transmission and differential to accompany the whistling

I love my Subie :)

Talk about experience

The sounds does get louder during cold or winter but not to worry.... mine had that whine also, but it happens after I chaged the trans and diff oil. It runs nicer :)

I kinda like the whine
