Spark Plug Gaps

Stupid newb question.

I bought the correct spark plugs for my car from an online subaru dealer (subaruparts.com). Do i have to worry about setting the spark gap?

PCV Valve 04+

I've read on nazicock etc that the pcv valve on the
04+ models is a non-maintenance item... meaning that
you wouldnt have to replace it.. which doesnt make
sense to me. Does anyone know if this is true or should
I just change it anyway?

I was also wondering...People tend to go with NGKs for plugs. Some say that the iridiums are like OEMs? I dunno, i find that hard to believe, but what do i know ;). I was looking into platinums (Cheaper) or will the v-power work just as well. Help anyone?

I went NGK for wires, plugs, and o2 sensor.

They are in the mail... I can tell by my car the previous owner changed the oil and that is about it.

PCV valve, litterally just took about 5 minutes.

However, the fuel filter take some wrangling. I am pretty sure the fuel filter has never been changed (car is at 155K miles). You can tell because the metal pieces that tighten down onto the pipe were in the original place. So to get my pipes off I first found an uber small screw driver, the kind your use on computers to wedge under the pipe to loosen it up some. What really got it going was holding onto the rubber piece and and turning the filter left to right while holding the piping in place. While you are holding onto the rubber try pulling it away from the filter. This really worked for me and was the most effective method.

The fuel filter is a royal pain in the arse. Luckily, with the Baja, it is one thing I don't have to worry about doing. Glad it went alright for ya though! Every time I had to do someone's fuel filter (my own, my mother's, a friend's), I end up slicing my finger with the screwdriver.

But, unless ya bleed a little, you're not really working, I guess. Just yesterday I split my knuckle changing my brakes out (shoulda used WD40, but didn't).

i have 05 rs.
i wanna know if thats true..

I don't believe the PCV is non-maintenance at least not on an 04 RS. It's basically that same as any other PCV valve and can clog just like any other valve. The upside is they're all metal and easy to clean with some brake cleaner or carb spray.

hey so....i havent changed my transmission fluid in oh lets say...100k miles....so what is your take on doing it...people tell me if you do it might be worse for my transmission than actually changing it...

Great question, and one that I've been considering myself.

From what I understand, changing transmission fluid is something that should be done in all cards, automatic or standard, every 75k or so; but, that is merely hearsay.

I'll say this, though.. better to spend the $20 (or whatever the fluid costs) and change it and have the money wasted then not change it and something bad happen. Although to be honest, I haven't heard anything bad happening from Subarus from not changing the trans fluid.

One thing I will give Subaru props for is how they run the transmission fluid at all. In one of my first vehicles, a '96 Chevy, Chevy decided to run a line from the transmission through the radiator to help cool the trans fluid. Somewhere in the radiator, I had a break in it, and the trans fluid mixed with coolant, getting coolant in my radiator and trans fluid in my block. Yeah, that led to some serious problems.

/cool story, bro

I have a 2008 Impreza, 2.5i. It has almost 70K. I was thinking about doing a fuel filter replacement as per the service manual. Can you or someone else update your the write-up for '08 and forward. Looking around on the net, the fuel filter is in the gas tank and no longer in the engine compartment.

Do I really need to do this at 70K? Should I also replace the pump if I am going into the fuel tank?

If this is already posted and I missed it, please post a link.

Thanks!

my 01 rs 2.5 has about 85k miles on it. At 80k I replaced the pcv, fuel filter, spark plugs, ac/ps belt and valve cover gaskets. I just got a CEL for the rear oxygen sensor so I think I'm just going to go ahead and replace them both. Looks like autozone has the bosch ones for about $60 a piece. Think those will be ok?

Edit: Ok I am reading that they don't care for the bosch. I may just try removing them and cleaning them with some MAF cleaner for now.

they dont like the bosch sensors? i just got 2 from oreilly auto, one bosch one generic something i cant remember. but i have series engine issues so i may just replace them until i fix my gasket problems. but let me know more on this.

I just did a complete overhaul on my 02 Bug Eye RS.

Trans Filter
Fuel Filter
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Cabin Airfilter
Oil Change
New Rotors on front.
New Gasket seals, left side was leaking oil everywhere, the old rubber seals were like plastic... bleh...
Ran sea foam and carb cleaner through the vacuum hose and put some in fuel tank, had a large amount of signal smoke lolz coming out the exhaust...

Next Tues gotta run over to the Subaru dealer for a new PCV valve, had none in stock at all the local auto parts stores.

Overall though very noticeable difference in the car. Idles low and sounds clean. Also very very very noticeable power increase.... 30-40 horse power easy.
