I have an old Outback Sport with the factory cross beams. This roof rack has adjustable clamps designed to fit a variety of OEM roof racks and work quite well with mine. The rack holds the bike by strapping down the rear wheel and holding onto the front fork (requires removing front wheel). It works very well, but wouldn't work for these newer mountain bikes, the front fork needs to be skewer. The only thing I don't like is that if the rack is mounted with the bike facing forwards, the hatch won't open quite all the way (I don't have spoilers so, if you do it might be a bigger problem). I flipped the rack around so now the bike is going backwards and that fixed the problem (the yakima manual says this is okay to do) but now it whistles a little over 50mph. Not a huge deal, it has an optional locking thing too which locks the bike and the rack to the car with one key so that's nice.
