I just had a conversation about "them." I mentioned that it seemed like they were a younger crowd and were often Honda owners previously. I feel that many of the WRX owners bought it because of the low cost, high horsepower potential, and because of all the advertising and press interest. Front page of SCC said "Let the ass kicking begin." Need I say any more?

The biggest drawback of the new WRX owners was the lack of knowledge of the Subaru history and heritage that we have come to know and love. I feel that many of them are younger and used to Club SI, so to speak, and we have to protect the RS from them to maintain the Cult Car status we so love. It's too bad for them, but it does ensure that SOA keeps making parts which we might be able to retro fit onto our cars... heh!

I personally think of many of the younger WRX owners as Honda Civic owners and then everything falls into place. They didn't buy it because it's a Subaru, they bought it because it's the new age Civic. Shame, shame. It doesn't even look good. :p

It seems that that I have noticed that (at least in Phoenix) the WRX owners are more midle aged professionals looking for an alternative to the Audi.

eric i have noticed the same in the chicago area...or at least at first it was that way. Now that all the enthusiasts have their cars there are quite a few LEFT overs that the 17 year old honda kids are buying...i like all the WRX owners i have met so far but yes there are the lets get 962 HP to the wheels with an intake bunch coming along.

I'm a WRX owner.... but....

Around here, Subaru's aren't widely popular and are very rarely seen. I found out about the Impreza about May 99.. and immediately fell in love with it. I had just leased a car.. a '99 Grand Prix.. and couldn't get out of that lease very cheaply so I could get an Impreza... so I rode it out.

Last year about this time, a friend of mine was in the market for a new car. I poked and prodded and finally got him to a Subaru dealer, and he fell in love with it. He's the proud owner of a white MY2001 2.5RS.

Then... I found out about the WRX coming over... FINALLY. I've been drooling over it since March when I saw the first one at the dealership. I was waiting and waiting until I could end the lease on that Pontiac and get my butt into that comfy WRX seat... saving my money for a down payment. Finally in October after they cut interest rates again... I went for it. I called up the local dealer and picked up my little black WRX.

I'm not one of the bandwagon hoppers, and it's kinda disturbing that there are so many. I've met a few of the other guys from the area that have WRX's and they're great. There are two I pass on the way to work every day, and I try to wave, but I don't think they understand the cult following around Subies :) There's even a 2.5RS here in town where I work... first one I EVER saw on the streets, and I've honked and waved at him, but get no response.

Please don't label me a bandwagon jumper or a Honda kiddie :) I came over here because I was informed that you're a highly intelligent and nice group, and a lot of the nice guys are leaving i-club for this forum (Kent, you know who I'm talking about :p)

I'll be working on Regional Forums at some point. I think I'm going to break it down by "states : A-G", "states : H-N" etc. because I am not good at that geographic BS. Southwest what? Where's dat?

Give me a while, I'll put something together, right now I have to clean the house for guests. :D

*mutters to self and wanders around*
now if i could only find that quote from that civil war general who said he would choose to live in hell because it has a preferable climit to texas

Yeah... the regional forums should be

Southeast
Northeast
Midwest
Rainy as hell (northwest)
HELL! (southwest)
I will go along with that.

I don't think it should be divided into alphabetic state listings because we need to have regions where the people are close together and can set up meets, get togethers, drunken brawls, illegal street races, and so on.

I don't wanna start a flame war or anything but, you guys act as if your the old guys and you know better then the new WRX people. I know some(probably many) WRX are young and don't know what they own, but many do, and many waited since the early 90's for this car to arrive, like my father and I, and we're glad we can finally get it. All of the subaru line up is based on the legacy platform that was introduced in 1990; did any of you see the legacy owners bash the impreza owners?? We've owned 4 subarus since 1991, I'm 20 and I know that when I drive my father's REX I'm driving something special just like when I used to drive our old legacy turbo, impreza L and even our Justy. Believe it or not the only car that subaru made in the 90's that I didn't yet drive is an RS. Enjoy your car people.
