Need your experience/advice on MY04 WRX EJ20 rods vs EJ20 or EJ18 rods.

I had usual WRX EJ20 problem, rod bearings wear out.
One rod mus be replaced.

I had one parts from EJ18 NA engine.

Rods from the EJ18 are similar to WRX EJ20 rods.

Question is, does those rods have the same material and reliability as the number on WRX rods is 89, but the number on EJ18 rods is 28?

And what does those numbers on roads mean?

If the rods are similar, do I need put all rods with the same number on them?
Because form EJ18 I have all set of roads.

Stick with ej205 rods. Similar won't cut it. If the weight is different you are gonna throw the balance of the engine off. I don't think ej18 rods will even work but am not sure

It's fine to use them they are the same. Every EJ subaru engine except the EJ207,EJ257 and EJ25D used the same rods. There are different casting numbers as you've seen, but they all are interchangeable use the same part numbers.

few days I have studied EJ part numbers and different rods

so from pats catalog and from design, and weight MY00 type RA STi rods are the same like EJ18 rods
only this number on the rod is difeerent

I was chenging rods in my type RA STi ex EJ20 engine from unknown EJ NA engine and with all 300Hp it worked well
only this number on the rod was different

so from part catalog:

MY93 1.8 AWD Impreza EUDM EJ18E rod part number from VIN
12100AA080 and (I suppose analog nr) 12100AA240

MY00 type RA STi Limited JDM EJ207
12100AA080 and (I suppose analog nr) 12100AA240

MY04 WRX EUDM EJ205
12100AA081 and (I suppose analog nr) 12100AA240

MY04 WRX STi EUDM EJ207
12100AA180 no analog numbet, but it can be due to part catalog failure



so the rods for first three is the same
is the MY04 WRX STi EUDM EJ207 rods are different in engine number is the same like MY00 type RA STi???

and this casting number is only some production or lot number with no effect on reliability???

in WRX engine I'm gonna use rods from EJ18E because they all four are with the same number

It's just a production number. All the rods you looked up are the same except the newer '04 EJ207.

I found even some myth that rods with nr 89 is the strongest or smthing :wtf:
