I am looking to change the fluids (trans and diff) in my car this weekend and wanted to get amsoil or redline, or anything else you guys recommend. I really don't want to order it from a website since I wanted it yesterday. Was looking for weights and capacities. I tend to be hard on the shifter and grind third to fourth alot and I don't auto-x or anything like that.

valvoline...that's what i plan on using at 15k. alot of people have used redline and liked it, others have HATED it. Subaru's don't necessarily like synthetics cause they are too slick and don't give the synchro's enough friction...so expect me to stick with dino oils.

I switched to Mobil 1. He's right about the synchros not being 100% happy. I get first gear crunch every now and again when I'm daydreaming. Otherwise it's great. Smoother for sure. Some people claim increased fuel economy, but I haven't seen it yet. Maybe on my next road trip I'll see if I can't get good fuel mileage.

When I changed my clutch and flywheel recently, I put Royal Purple in and it felt really smooth at first. But now shifting iis starting to feel a little notchy. I don't know if it is the fluid yet, but you probably want to steer away from that until I find out for certain.

Any idea of the weights your using for the tranny and front and rear diff.?

I'm using Mobil 1 in the tranny and have no problems yet. I don't get any grinding at all. I ground the gears a couple of times, but I think that was a product of the new clutch, and me not being used to it. I haven't done it since a couple of days after I put in the clutch. I have about 3k with the Mobil 1, and at this point I would recommend it to you.

Make certain that your tranny fluid has no friction modifiers in it.

Those are to be used in trannys that share with differentials, or in difs alone.
Our tranny has its own fluid supply, seperate from the diffs, so we don't want the friction modifiers.

The 5mt tranny and diff share fluid. The 4eat have seperate.

But the 5mt still doesn't want the friction modifiers.
