Whenever I leave my car @ idle and leave the heater on after a minute, I get this burning oil smell into the car. Does anyone know what this is or where it's coming from? Seems like only I can smell it, because my passengers don't say anything about it. Thanks. :stinky:

I have been getting this same smell. I couldn't find it for the longest time. I cleaned the engine and looked for seeps, drips, leaks what not and couldn't find anything. Then when I was changing my plugs 2 weeks ago I pulled the boot/wire from the plug on the passenger side closest to the fire wall and found oil all over the boot and plug bottom/seat. It seems that I have a leak in the valve cover gasket where it doesn't leak outside but inside. My baby is getting old! 76,000 miles.

I only get this smell when I'm at idle. When I start driving, the smell disappears. Voodoo on my Impreza? I'll check my plugs, thanks. Darn, a MY00 and already @ 41000 miles. I gotta relax! :checkit:

Does milage count if you're going sidwayz? J/K, that's quite imprezzive, sidewayz. Where did you go to get those miles? Once or twice, I met this guy up in Minnesota here who owned a MY01 with around 37000 miles mid last summer. He's cool about it, too. I think the owners of new cars with high milage have bonded to the car more than anything else... literally. :biglaugh:

I have made a contract with my Scooby. "I promise to drive you through big puddles, red lights, around trees, past ricers,..." and some other personal things only I share with my Scooby. We are bestest friends.

What have you been eating? :stinky:

Could be that at any speed above idle, there's enough pressure to keep that little leak by the plug from dripping. Or maybe it's just that while you're moving, there is little enough of the smell that you just don't notice it. But when you're siting still, it builds up enough for you to notice.
