Did y'all just die or something? Over the past year this thread has been pretty slow compared to how it was before. What happened???

Facebook took over. People's attention spans dropped to 5 minutes.

Thus it takes 5 minutes to go from computer off to posting a topic on a forum, so no one goes on forums.

Takes even longer from a smartphone, potentially.

But Facebook, swipe right, press button, boom you're there. You still have 4 minutes of attention span to capture most people.

It died with the rest of the forum
I wonder how much traffic RS25 pulls in now versus 3-4 years ago.

This is very true. What is it... If you can't get someone to buy a product within 3 clicks you're not doing it right?

I hate the Facebook groups, too much of seeing people ask the same questions every day and the post a picture of your car every day of the week.

Maybe I've just gotten too old....

Pretty sure all of us have gotten old. Apparently forums are out of style... FB, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat are where social media is at now.

Most kids don't even have the attention span to drive... Too busy texting and crap putting my motorcycle riding ass at risk when they cross into my lane...

Ok that was an old statement...

Social media is garbage compared to the forums. People don't want to spend the time browsing multiple threads for information. Instead of getting flamed by older forum members when you ask a previously answered question, you are awarded a bombardment of misinformation from a bunch of newbs that are educated in the same manner.

I still prefer the forums. I haven't had FB for a full year yet. I've never had it. I decided to get one to keep up with some family and that's it really. IG is kinda fun, I enjoy it, but everything else is pure cancer.

It's sad to feel noltagic when getting on a forum. Right? It kills me to see some of the younger( not always the case) folks asking ridiculous questions on FB groups, when in no time they could google said questions and it'll direct them to a forum and boom, done.

Not everything needs a 25 page diatribe from cubical gophers hiding from their bosses trying to establish their social dominance. FB, IG, are very useful but people are stubborn about it. I like them.

Forums make money on banners, clickable ads, page clicks, extensive dramas, and clueless bean counters from large parts companies. I'm not saddened to see them losing prominence because of how they've been abused for power over the last 20 years. Computers are more fun without socialism trying to ruin everything.

Forums are useful for disseminating a large amount of information at once to a very visible crowd. That's worth the price of admission to some companies. They don't captivate the audience like they used to. Forums become their own worst enemy through clunky and abusive management. Other venues put more control over the message directly in the hands of individuals and companies. What I see is information going full circle among all the different technologies and forums losing their once hallowed dominance. That's not a bad thing.

Here is what I have noticed with the recent social media trend in my own industry (firearms)

If I want to appeal to the masses and get all the kids all hyped up I put stuff on social media, doing so draws them in to my site or store. Funny videos provide the instant entertainment they are looking for and then they proceed to be more interested in the company.

If I am trying to get technical information out there I will put that information in a forum format or a blog. Most of the time though I go into forums and just see a lot of bashing on companies. Once in a blue moon you see good stuff but if I want to see people who have no professional credibility talking about how bad a product is then I will turn to those forums.

Granted, there are a lot of people in the firearms industry who got a degree in "afro engineering" and seem to think they understand the technical aspects of headspace and timing and such. Ask a normal guy the difference in between secant and tangent ojive in a bullet and how each affects ballistic coefficient and they will have no idea. But they will be able to tell me how to make a bullet that can kill someone... :unamused:

I guess what I am getting at is there can be some good data from forums, I still haven't found any in social media. I look at social media as pure advertising and that's it. So appeal to the masses on that one...
