From what I know, NGK's are best for a low budget enthusiast. And the expensive Iriduim plugs are the best (around $40 a plug). If you haven't done so, look more into Direct hits spark plug wires.

'Jacob's Spark' (as I saw on a tuner's magazine half page ad) might be a good bet sinced they have performance charts. Sorry, I can't go searching to too many sites per day. I'm at work. :run:

It's a big debate. NGK plain ol' copper plugs are supposedly some of the best you can get for your car. Platinum/Iridium is okay because it lasts longer, but copper's the better conductor, so it's a better spark, supposedly. More expensive isn't always better.

And as for the wire debate, it's much like Monster Cable, which is a heated conundrum. Some say that expensive wires with fancy advertising yield performance, others say it's a placebo effect. Much the same with sparkplug wires. With speaker wire, there's no physical proof (only opinion and hearsay) that expensive wire actually makes a difference. The most important thing is to buy the proper GAUGE for your application, and make sure the connectors are hooked properly and tight. Cheap Radio Shack or Home Depot speaker wire sounds no different from Monster Cable or $5000 Kimber Cable.

Or that's how the story goes. It's just a matter of taking sides.

I'd have to say NGK copper are the best I've used. I don't think Iridium spark plugs are worth the money, unless you are upgrading your whole ignition system. Same for wires.

Most people seem to like the NGK V's (# BKR6E-11). I just bought some for my car, but haven't installed yet, so no opinion at this time.

The iridium are supposed to have the power of copper and the longevity of platinum.

I personally would rather change my spark plugs every 10k miles than pay for the iridiums.

If something should happen and the plugs get seriously fouled, at least I'm only out a $2 plug, right? right.

Be careful though. I went to check my plugs today and I ripped the stupid connector off the end of my plug wire (see photo)
And with 30k miles on them, I didn't want one new and 3 old, so I replaced all 4. Ahem. $97 later... (thank you SOA for not selling the wires as a kit)

I checked before and the dealer wanted to charge me $80+ for one spark plug wire. Well, since Magnecor's are $100+, I decided to go the right way with the Magnecor's. Performance gains? My butt dyno was numb back when I installed it. Don't ask why.

I'm gonna probably try some iridium on some NGK, do a quick 0-60 and see which ones seemt to pull better.

Then we'll KNOW! :lol:

I did the same thing when i went to change my plugs. (actually my friend did). Best part it was 9:30 at night and we didn't have spare wires!!!!!! So we spent an hour and a half making two new wires. Let me tell ya...it ain't fun.

Direct Hits

Its all about the Direct Hits baby. I was running normal plugs and my car was running hella rich. Switched over to Direct Hits and now running Stoich. It is nice having a spark plug that actually burns the fuel. I love 'em and you should get 'em. Not to mention better gas mileage.

How does a spark plug change the a/f ratio? Isn't a/f measured before it's burned? Or was it just rich before because the stock plugs couldn't burn all of the fuel?

Besides... I don't think I can buy something called Direct Hits. Sounds like a cheesey Infomercial music compilation.

Go with the stock NGK plugs (not the fucking Champions, Champions only go in Chryslers). They're cheap and make a world of difference.

What are you looking for in a spark plug? You want power, go with copper. You want it to last a long time, get platinum.


I think they're a waste of money.

OK Mr. 'I don't care what you think', chew on this. A spark plug cannot change the air/fuel ratio. Therefore it cannot change the a/f ratio from rich to stoich.

What it can do is more completely burn the air/fuel mixture it is given.

So grap on my tired and learn to take a joke.

i dont know about the whole a/f thing but all i know is i went and got the ngk v-powers and love them total diffrence!

I switched to the NGK's couple of weeks ago... I personally can't feel a difference, but I think they got rid of that lobing the engine was doing at idle.

Also plugs 1 and 3 looked in slightly worse condition than 2 and 4, any one else see that? But those were the champions and the first time they were yanked out in the car's life. 27000 miles.
