whoops :)

whoops... here's the first post :)
Anyone have any legal info about colored xenon lights for the different lights of the car? I have the superwhite ones for my fog and headlights and heard that blue can be a touchy legal subject. I want to do the corner and side markers and was planning on doing everything in them at some point if I could. Along the same lines was wondering if you replace the amber lights with the clear ones, do you have to use amber bulbs for the blinkers and such.

Then read the one above... any thoughts? :)

cops i my aera are not to worried about the blue tinted lights, except for vienna but that is another story. If i were you i would leave you bumper turn signal and side markers orange if you have them clear, if not there is no need to waste your money. your corner lights i would match them to your headlights. and when you say the rear lights i assume that you have the JDM tail lights and you are talking about your turn signals. I would defintly leave them orange! Cops will get you for this! and if your talking about your revrse lights. what ever you want. and maybe you could get a yellow fog light bulb! like the Ion Crystal ones by Piaa. those look hot! well thats what i would do anyways

lights

Well... currently I have superwhite xenon on my fog and headlights. I'll probably put some in the corner lights too which are being replaced with clear. My side markers are smoke and will probably end up being superwhites too. I haven't installed them yet but will be getting the half red half clear tail lights. I will put yellow bulbs for the blinkers there and in the front bumper light where the glass is clear too. I think I have it all covered now... thx all :)

Another Idea

Here's what I'm doing- I have clear everything: corners, turn signals, sidemarkers, JDM taillights. I'm using the orange bulbs that came with them, but I'm going to put a thin coat of silver over them so they won't look orange under the clear lenses like they do now. That way it'll be legal but still look totally clear. It doesn't make the orange any dimmer either when it's blinking. I forgot who started this mod, but it wasn't me so I'm not taking any credit for it.

Ooooo.... what do you use to paint them silver? Probably don't have to worry about the paint overheating them since they're intermitent, but what type of paint would it be. Oil/water based, etc... I totally want to do that for the blinkers. I hate how the amber shows through.

Really. :) Just paint them, it's cheap and easy. They actually sell bulbs that are silver and blink orange but those are 20 bucks or something.

Here's the original thread I looked at for this mod:

Here's a link to buying the bulbs if you're too lazy to DIY. ;)

I'm still trying to do this.. I bought "glass paint" and it sucked ass. I'll try to look for "Duplicolor Ultra Silver" since it worked for them. I'll post some pics after I get it done.

Sorry for the delay. I've kind of been busy failing classes... :( I'll be going to Home Depot tomorrow to look for that spray paint. So, hopefully, it'll be done by tomorrow (if I can find the paint). I will post pics of it once I'm done, I haven't forgotten. :)

What a Pain in the ASS

Ok, went to Home Depot today and got Rustoleum silver spray paint. Painted it on the bulbs and they looked great. Put them in and they were really dim, guess I sprayed too much. :(

So.. I figured I'd use some of the other bulbs I have lying around to replace the rear turn signals that I screwed up because I didn't want to be driving around with no rear turn signals! I was thinking, maybe I'll just use some of the other bulbs to replace it. Maybe one of the following will work: JDM reverse or USDM reverse or USDM front and rear turn signal bulbs. (Brake lights are different, dual fillament of course.) But guess what? The JDM rear turn signals are different from EVERY single other bulb!!! :curse: WTH did they do that for? So I actually replaced the whole harness with the USDM one, what a PITA! At least I have clear turn signals now, better than none. I just thought of something. Since the USDM front & rear turns are the same I'll swap them so I'll have clear in front instead of clear in the rear. Gonna go outside and do that now.

Jeez this is getting long. I haven't given up yet though. I'm going to order a lot of bulbs and test them out. I'll try to look for some high temp model paint or something.

So the JDM rears have their own bulb casings... I thought they used the stock lights for some reason. I haven't put mine in yet (still waiting for delivery ;) )... just got the bumper sides and corners in. Kinda sucks though... I had ordered some LED brake lights... dunno if they'll work now :( I wonder if the yellow part of the light housing is actually yellow plastic or a coating on the inside. Anyone know?

Casings? What do you mean?

Why wouldn't LED work? What yellow part of the housing? You're talking about the JDM taillights right? There's no yellow on them...

The turn signal in the JDM taillight is different from all the rest of the bulbs. I swapped the wiring harness on my stock taillights onto my JDM taillights, so I don't have this problem anymore. Just swap the wiring harness and it'll work.

They are a lot brighter but they're only for the brake light. And the only ones I've seen are for the brakes. It's a cluster of about 15... not sure. But I don't see them really first hand all the time... I had just ordered a bunch of lights from www.trendcruiser.com at some point and decided to try those out. I'll be posting pics of my car sometime next month probably when I finish getting all the body stuff done. Need to put on the spoiler and I want to get the sti front lip and rear spats... I'll probably stick light pictures up at the same time.
