If it was TMIC i can understand the hoodscoop but if it was FMIC like the new age that would just create drag. I probably should know this but it just popped in my head and i can't figure it out..

Thanks

Almost all the WRC cars have been FMIC. Prior to the WRC spec, the class was called Group A and the Subies used TMICs.

The hood scoop is used as an air intake in some of the later 22b bodied versions. I believe one version mounted an oil cooler there, but I can't seem to find a pic of that.

You can see the TMIC in this pic....

i was told that up until the WRC 2000 car, they were all TMIC, hence the road car having a TM, and not a FM.

Look at the EVO, the WRC is FM, always has been, so they did the same with the road car.

As others have said, the pre-WRC cars had TMIC.
To compete in the WRC in the Grp. A days you had to homologate 2500 copies of the race car.
Very little was changed from the race to the road car with these cars.

My Dad used to work for Ford and he'd bring home evaluation cars and let me loose with a Escort Cossie for a few weekends. The car was fast but man did it have some bad turbo lag due to the large turbo.

Shawn - The 22B cars I've seen pics of have TMIC as well.

My bad Shawn. :D

Yeah, the Cossie was bad ass. People just looked and didn't know what to think of the "Escort" with the big whale tail.

It was fun taunting T/A, Camaros, Mustangs and Probe GTs with it. My friend wouldn't race me in his V6 Probe GT 'cause it had a turbo. I told him that I'd keep it off the boost if he wanted to race. ;)

Man, those were good times. I got to drive everything from Cossies and Carrera 4s to JPN market RHD Mazdas. RHD is a trip. :D

definitely TMIC, if you saw some of the stuff the WRC cars stick on themselves when the hit large water areas, it look like they are wearing a snorkel right on the hood scoop!
