I am going turbo on my car soon and need some info. My car is a '95 Impreza L AWD with the 1.8 engine and about 97K on the odometer. Here is the important info about the kit that I can think of: The kit has a Garrett T-25 turbo with an internal wastegate set at 5 psi and a fender mount intercooler. I think it was originally an Eclipse setup. It is missing the uppipe and there is no intake piping, but has the downpipe and all of the other piping. It has a Field SFC, HKS bov, and a couple of guages. I will also be getting a Stromung rear section and RS fuel pump with the kit. I will be running boost, A/F ratio, oil psi, and EGT gauges to keep an eye on everything. Here are my questions:
1. On the oil feed line, where is the best place to mount it? Also, can anything else besides the one iSR sells be used?
2. On the oil return line, does it have to be any special type of line? I have an oil pan from a parted-out Ludespeed kit, and I was just curious what I should use.
3. Should I go with hotter spark plugs, such as the range 7 NGKs that iSR sells?
4. How much should I expect to pay to get an uppipe made? I just want aluminized steel and would prefer mandrel bends, but may use crush bends if it won't make THAT big of a difference. Opinions? I thought about ordering the bends from JC Whitney and, making the flange for the turbo, and having it all welded together by an exhaust shop. Would it be much better to have it made out of less pieces? Again, any opinions on this are welcome. Also, am I correct in thinking the uppipe and downpipe inside diameters should match?

On a final note, I will most likely do most, if not all of the installation myself with the help of a friend (aside from the exhaust pieces) in order to save myself some money. I am confident I can do most everything, but I am going to try to make arrangements to take it to a shop should I need to. I was planning on hooking up the gauges and electronics first, before the turbo goes on, in order to get an idea of where the normal readings will be. I know it will be a little bit different with the turbo on, but I will have something for comparison. Thanks!:)

while i don't have a turbo, i might have some advice for you. first, i believe you want to go a range cooler with the plugs, since the turbo will be heating up the air, making it more prone to combustion. hot plugs could cause detonation. second, i belive subachad makes up pipes and what not. obviously, i don't have any of his products, but from what i've read people seem to be pretty happy with them. third, don't forget to fill the turbo with boost fluid  also, what is a fender mounted I/C?

I have been told that a hotter plug is better, but I'm not sure myself! Subachad does make uppipes, but they're for Subaru turbos. He said he could probably make a custom one, but he'd have to have the turbo and downpipe-not a big deal if he's across town, but he's across the country!:( A fender mount intercooler sits inside the fender!:checkit: It sits behind the front bumper cover in the turn signal/foglight/brakeduct area. It will be relatively unnoticeable to most people! The only car I know of that uses them is the Eclipse. It will be best for me since I don't have a hood scoop and I don't want the attention a front mount would draw! Althouh, I may still get it if the bov is loud enough! I've got 6 gallons of boost fluid for the turbo!:p

One more thing is that a friend of mine who is big into Mitsubishis said that I should upgrade my injectors when I go turbo. I don't think it's necessary for a 5 psi turbo plus a Field SFC, but I'd like opinions on that if anybody has any.

Also, I am not expecting to run 10 second quarter miles with this kit; I just want to give my car a much needed power boost!

Darrell,
-Big injector is a no no on your case. Ask me when you call me.
-Colder plugs are better for turbo application, so be ready to ditch yours.
-Remember the VR4 also has FenderIC :)
-I can't gurantee the HKS is gonna be as loud as the Blitz, so don't steal mine at night.
-Noticed you kept on cursing on your baby being too slow...do it again and it's $100 raise on the kit ;)

Benson-
I didn't think I needed bigger injectors, but my friend was pretty insistent on it! Of course, he's running about 22 psi of boost on his Starion, so I can understand his end! I was kind of thinking the same thing on the plugs, but I wasn't sure; I guess the problem is that I don't know how to read NGK's numbers! I just mentioned the Eclipse because more people have probably seen those than the VR4:) . Don't worry, I won't touch your Blitz! Besides, you have an alarm, so I'd have to take it during the day!:p $100 raise?!:boxer: It IS too slow right now, but that will probably change after the turbo is installed. I got smoked by Jason's stock Explorer the other day racing to the speed limit! I think I could beat a Hummer or a Metro and probably most semis, though!:D

Putting a turbo from a semi would be the same as no turbo...my engine would barely spin something that size!:)

Darrell,
No those are not the only cars you can beat. Don't forget to add my long-gone Escort and current Tempo to the list ;)

A bump and another question! I was wondering if I need gaskets for the up and down pipes where they mount to the turbo? If so, what kind of material should they be and where can I get it? Also, I'm still seeking answers to some of the questions I posed above. Thanks!:)
