Hey all, We have an '05 RS Impreza 180,000 miles that has begun having a loudish ticking noise on the drivers side on acceleration, when driving and you take your foot off the gas it stops. Its very noticeable with the windows down. No other running problems with the car. We bought the car a few months ago and the noise wasn't there. Before this noise I changed to a High Mileage oil 5W30, I wonder if this is the cause! Maybe the older engine might be better with a 10W grade oil? Thoughts anyone?

I would only use normal oil with the recommended weight. The noise could be several things, I would remove the timing covers then put pulleys and belts back on to see if maybe the noise is coming from the timing tensioner, they can make a loud rattle if they are worn or defective. Also be sure timing is lined up, hopefully a cam isn't off a tooth and causing valve to piston contact.
