I recently have changed from the KYB/5zigen to the KYB/Eibach setup. When I first installed the 5zigen set, I already had the 18mm bar on with no other mods. After much thought, I realized that the front to rear spring rate balance is too off, causing understeer. so I purchased a 20mm bar....still not impressed. Basically, my car just didn't "feel" like an Impreza. It was not flickable at all. and it really sucked in the gravel.

Later I switched to the SPD/Eibach spring with the same KYB struts. The difference was AWESOME. My car was tossable, more stable at high speeds, still very, very comfortable from a performance view(which is all I care about!) And off-road, It was just as good. Keep in mind that I still haven't touched the damper settings, either. They're at 2/5 right now. Anyway I highly recommend this setup for a good all around improvement. Good luck.

I'm not sure about the spring rates. the box the springs came in had german writing on it, if I recall. But I'm pretty sure it's the SPD/Eibach kit for a German Impreza turbo. If you check out North Ursalia's site, he has the spring rate chart for the 5zigen's though. The front to rear balance is alot more different than most of the others, if I remember. I also prefer non-progressive springs. The 5zigen is progressive, the Eibach isn't. Maybe more people like them, but I loved that oversteer from throttle lift, and 5zigen springs made it very hard to do that.

Kyb/Eibach Sport combo...20mm STi Rear bar, Whiteline front endlinks, Solid Rear endlinks, Rear strut tower brace...struts set at 2 & 5....this is a pretty good combo between driveability and performance...gets a little stiff for the people in the back seat but the car feels great. i am on snow tires runnign 36psi front/34psi rear and that car rides just right now. I think the AGX/Eibach combo is perfect, some people claim they are too soft but i think the 5zigen's get a lil too rough at times and the car gets slammed. The AGX's null out most of the body roll and keep a pretty decent ride height. Good luck.

Yeah, It also seems like lowering impreza's makes them handle worse, as with most cars, I guess. But I remember when I had the 5zigen springs on, looking at my car from the back, you could see the control arms at a funny angle. The inner attachment points were lower than the outer, kinda like wings "flapping upwards", if you know I mean. It just didn't seem right, you could really see the loss of sus. travel.

Mmmm, I just switched from a KYB-AGX/Tein setup to the KYB-AGX/SPT-Eibach setup. What a huge friggin improvement! I loved the way the car looked with the Tein's but man, the car ride's and handles so much better with the SPT/Eibach's. Can't wait for the ProSOLO in Feb to see how they handle against some of the national auto-xers!

After 55k miles the left rear stock strut spilled its guts out so I just installed the KYB AGX/SPT-Eibach combo. I was worried that it would drop the car too much, but it only dropped about 1/2". I have to say that this set up works very well, espacially if you want to maintain the ride quality. The car is now firmly planted on the ground, and corners 10 times better than stock.

The only other suspension mod I have made is FHI 18mm rear sway bar.

After a bad experiance with my Neon R/T and Eibachs I was worried about the progressive rear springs, but it all turned out ok.

So the SPT/Eibach is really that good as far as imitating the stock ride quality? I thought that my 5-Zigen setup was pretty good as far as ride quality. How would you guys rate the difference? You got me thinking that I chose the wrong springs now. When I go for spirited drives I set my suspension at 2/8 and I never have problem breaking the rear end loose.

I have also done the 18mm rear sway bar, and strut tower braces on both ends.

RS_NW - of course you're not gonna have any problems breaking the back end loose... With the rear set @ 8 you're not letting the suspension do it's job.

I've found that 2/6 or 2/5 is a decent set up for all around driving albeit a bit harsh for crappy Chicago streets. A setting of 3 in teh front just makes it bounce too much on expressway expansion joints...nearly made me toss my lunch on a trip back to MI.

I think the Eibachs are very well matched to the dampening rates of the AGX struts.

On the topic of lowering an Impreza, it's optimal lowering range is 0.75" to 1.2" any lower it's detrimental thot he handling.

I think alot of ppl buy springs basing on the spring rates. However there's much much more to spring technology than just it's spring rates. Things like the material that use to construct the spring, phosphate coating, peening techniques, chrome-sillicon alloy etc... Eibach is perhaps one of the best if no the best in the spring business. In fact Eibach started the spring performance market! ;)

5zigen/KYB AGX Front2 Rear6

Its a bit bouncy on a unperfect road, havent yet autox'd this setup. I have used Front2 Rear4 and have experienced understeer. I have yet to set my sway car above 18. We'll see how that goes.

Overall, I got a amazing price on my 5Zigens and I'll stick with em until i get the buks to go coilover.
