TCU Project for MY01RS 4EAT

Okay, lets see if we can get something going...
I know there is currently a racing shifter in development from levelten, but I would prefer something cheaper and possiblily it's programmable. I know where and how the part would be, but now I just have to get the spec from AUTECS inorder to continue the project. Please help if you know anything about hacking the TCU.

It's been a long time since we looked at this - any news before I start hacking my tranny wire harness?
I have a 4EAT also, and I am interested in this little project. I dont' mind hacking into my wires to try shit. The only issue is money. I can't rush out and buy anything. If there is anything I can do to help let me know. If you have the wiring diagram I can study that and maybe figure some things out!

Andy,

Well, one thing I was going to do was to wire in a bunch of 12v bulbs into the harness going into the tranny - one bulb for each wire. Then, drive for a while and see what wire does what while shifting and what not. Then, I was going to carefully try and unplug the harness and supply my own power to the circuits in an effort to make things shift when I wanted them to.

You're welcome to embark on this, as I will not be able to get to it for a while... :(
it has been a while. all the things are in the box and have not been worked on for a while.
I'd buy a paddle-shifter setup off you in an instant. I'd also be happy to road test it if you need guinea pigs :D .

hmmm... no paddle shifter... Only the gated shifter. The shifter is completed, just need to put a customized gate to it. So however you want it, as long as it's in a linear motion. If you are local and want to take a look at it, let me know! I am at UCSC
just realized you are at MA... don't think you would want to come once a week:biggest:
the two tcus are still sitting here... won't work on it until summer or next fall... that's when I have that class. I could do it now, but don't have the time for it. I rather do it while I am using it as a class project.... :D
Post some pictures if you get a chance doode... :D
Here are some pics...

The two on top are the shifter. The two on the bottom are the TCUs. I have two tcus by the way...

Yeah. MA is kinda far from CA. If you ever need a road tester though, I'll pay shipping. I'm always happy to help further the 4EAT cause. I already have a gated shifter, but I'd like a gate that prevents me from overshooting D into N. That was a problem once or twice, and I can see that being real bad if I do it at the wrong time.

so you have MY02 4EAT? If you do, that's very easy to implement. Just mod the gate pattern and you are done!
ibluevirus...dont forget about me just 1 hour south of you ;)
hey Andrew! man, it's been a while seen i last look at this project. I think I'll dig it up after my finals (19th)... I'll keep you posted man!

Sorry... not to hijack your thread...

How'd I go about doing that? I could definitely justify spending a few hours and a few dollars doing that. With a small piece of nice brushed sheet aluminum and a dremel, I could make a sweeeeet gate guide for the shifter. How do I make the change underneath? I'm assuming that flimsy assembly of plastic isn't keeping it all together.

-IggDawg
if you take apart your shifter. there should be two main parts to the gate. The silver plastic piece and the black strips covers (so you can't see through the gate). You need to make another gate just like the plastic piece but with a different pattern.

even it's a "gated" shifter. It is still going from p-r-n-d-3-2-1... It just have the ability to go from left to right. I'll take some pics soon...
Thanks for the info. Even if I don't "re-gate" teh tranny, I think I'll make a brushed aluminum shifter guide. I ithink that would look sweet with the interior.

-IggDawg
if you go under the car. the shifter is still pulling the cable in a linear direction. Nothing will be touched on the tranny. :) If you take apart of the shifter cover and look under the car you'll know what I mean.
Thanks for all the tips. I yanked it apart, and it looks like it'll be easy enough to do what I want to with a dremel and some scraps. I'm going to go ahead with that idea of a metal shift gate for style points. 5 bucks at home depot should do the trick. I'll post pics when I'm done.
