actually, i was refering to Jesus (heysusz) Puras, the amazing tarmac specialist who drove for citroen last year and, during last years silly season, was rumoured to be in negotiations with Subaru. alas nothing came of it, though i wasn't far off in my prediction...
Achim Mörtl is the new driver. he's an austrian tarmac specialist who will drive for team points in Duetchland and San Remo, and, if he does good, he might be on the roster more in 2003. hopefully he will kick ass
I jsut dont understand why Subaru has only had 2 drivers the past couple years. I'd try to have 3 minimum and compete the best for points, that way if someone keeps blowing things up (ahem, Tomi) you've got backups. Look at Peugot, even in rallies of attrition they've always got someone in the wings waiting to step up if needed.
to paraphrase David Richards (team principle of SWRT) "were spending tens of millions of dollars, but not as many tens of millions as Ford or Puegot"
money. that is why subaru has only been running 2 cars. and this is also the first season where you could run 3 cars and have the top two, regardless of who they were, score points. it used to be that you had to nominate 2 drivers and they were the only ones eligible to score points, even if another driver finished higher.
remember, SWRT has been without a major sponsor since '98 (until this year). they just havn't been able to afford a fleet of cars and drivers and crews.
Jesus (rally driver) had a few GREAT rallies last year. Armon Schwartz (or what ever it is, he drove th Octavia last year) in one of the snow rallies last year was ausome, soooooo much smoother than all the other drivers that day. It was one of my favorites, and remember it vividly. I don't know how any of these guys are doing this year though....
