sulfur smell

i mentioned this a little while back, and i went to a mechanic and he told me to just try better gas. when i tried, there was a significant difference in the smell i was getting form high revs, but just recently after maybe the third fill up on premium, i'm getting the smell again.
the smell is jsut like sulfur, this mornign i smelled it from my vents and then i opened the window and it was the same crap smell i would smell from my exhaust. the smell from the vents was noticably more, for lack of better words, stinky
any ideas what this is?

Isn't it catalytic converters that smell like sulfur when they die?

I took my Subie into the dealer to find out about that smell too. SOA has officialy said that it is due to the amount of sulphur in certain fuels. I changed where I get my fuel from, and the smell is gone.

That smell is raw fuel being burnt up in the cat. Mine used to do it a lot but now it does it occasionaly when I get on the freeway with a quickness. It was something that happened from mile 1, so if it's a bad cat then mine never worked.

mine did it too

i bought a new 2002 2.5RS at the beginning of last summer and it would occassionally do it time to time... but not often.

I always thought that smell was some other car since it would come through the vents...

but after awhile It just stopped. I havent noticed it for a long while.

Are you keeping your injectors clean (every 3K miles)?

Did you change who you buy gas from? Premium from the same oil company that you were buying regular from will have the same base fuel sulphur content! I don't want to bash Oil companies here......but all gas is not created equal!

This is gonna sound really dumb-

Injectors clean?!? How would I do that- change, filter, cleaner, what?

Add fuel injector cleaner to your gas (before a fill up) every 3K miles (or when you change oil). Use a brand that also lubricates and cleans the entire fuel system....helps keep your fuel pump healthy as well as the injectors. I use Techron. I would avoid anything that says STP or costs less than $2 a bottle.

Marvel Mystery Oil can be used as well...up to 4 oz per tankfull...cleans and lubes the fuel pump, injectors, valves and combustion chamber.....
