Pre-facelift & Facelift & STi Version #:
The front ends for the GC/GF chassis are commonly grouped into Pre-facelift and Facelift (Ver1-2 and Ver3-Ver6). The differences are due to the change in the shape of the Hood, Headlights, and Grill. They can be mixed; however, there are notable gaps. The fenders, corner lights, and front bumpers are interchangeable regardless of the version. The following photo from an STi catalog identifies the differences in STi Version #s.

Thanks krotch! I didn't know there was a difference in the headlights, I assumed the 97-01 were all the same. Are the 97-98 plastic and the 99-01 glass?

98 is angled on the inner portion. and fluted.
99-01 is angled on the inner portion. and crystal clear.

Nope, 97-98 are glass as well, they're just fluted and not clear like the 99-01

All the GCs are glass. It's just the 97-98s are fluted glass, while the 99-01s are the crystal glass. They are the same shape. Only the 93-96 are a different shape fluted glass.

Subbed! Great thread as a fellow "noob" (to subaru's). An idea I would like to see is a "front lip" options. My '99 RS came with a front lip I have only seen it in very random photographs, with no acknoledgement - so I can't seem to find the name. I did see it pop up here though. Mine got destroyed by a plow truck , and I would like to find another. Looks like this..

Oh no worries im still working on the front lips, still gathering photos. I believe that would be a v1-v4 chargespeed lip.

Hmm. It did infact have a pink STI logo IIRC, and no "vents" or holes in it. It was almost like a wrap around bubble shape. I don't believe when I picked up the peices it had a chargespeed label on it either (seemed to be molded in the color white too, not painted).
