BIG UPDATE POST #90: http://www.rs25.com/forums/f145/3541362-post90.html

Hi guys,

Long time lurker/shopper on here. Been through quite a few Subarus in my time, and a few GC/GM/GF chassis over time.

96L EJ205 swapped wagon - Peeling White
2000 RS Coupe - STM and cobwebs
2001 RS Sedan - BRP - Current DD
1998 L coupe - Avery Bright Blue Metallic - Current monster

Well I just sold my 2000 RS coupe and 2002 WRX wagon, in order to get the cars I've always wanted, a BRP 01 RS sedan and a 98 L coupe powered by 2005 STi running gear.

The L has gone through quite a few hands, both on the forums and off, and tracing it back has been a chore, mostly finding deleted FS threads, and sparse information otherwise. I was able to track a few of the forum owners, from qax, powerneedy, and silver70lt1.

I believe the swapped state of the car started in the hands of qax, who I think had the swap done by Garage Tuning back in the day. It then moved onto powerneedy, who tore down the motor and rebuilt it while adding some small bits. I think it went to a non forum owner, then the owner I bought the car from. Previous owner fixed a lot of small things on the car and kept very good care of it, and also DIY wrapped it in Avery Bright Blue Metallic.

Saw the car pop up on CL and it looked like it was in good shape, and I happened to be passing through the area, so I checked it out. I was sold after the test drive, and talking to the owner who I seemed to have a lot in common with.

The car is in smog mode right now, on a factory map, with only a Cobb catback on it. It is blistering fast, and will only get faster. I plan to campaign the car in Global Time Attack Enthusiast class to start, so the car will be built accordingly to the class rules.

I'm still sorting through the mod list given from the previous owners, and will post one eventually. Also, proper pics will be coming soon, but for now, here are some phone pics from my first day of ownership

Here are the mods on the car from day 1 of my ownership, based on what I was told, what I saw, and what was in the supplied paperwork:

05 STi Motor, fully rebuilt. Currently has 17k miles on the rebuild
05 STi complete drivetrain(6MT, diff, driveshaft, hubs, brakes, etc)
05 STi BBS wheels, 17x8 +53ET
05 STi Engine and bulkhead harness and cluster
05 STi front subframe, 98L rear subframe
05 STi Pedal set
05 STi Steering wheel, column, and steering rack

Aftermarket stuff:

Motor and drivetrain:

Cobb catted downpipe and catback
Welded TGV deletes
AMR hard inlet
Exedy twin plate clutch
Cobb shifter bushings
STi short shifter
GroupN trans mount
JDM WRX coolant overflow tank
GD chassis Koyo radiatior

Suspension:

Feal 441 Coilovers
Cobb front and rear sway bars with rear mounts

Interior:

Version 5 door cards and rear panels
New carpet
Some Kenwood headunit and upgraded speakers

Exterior:

RS hood
RS side skirts
RS wipers with deflector
Version 6 JDM STi wing
Depo black housing headlights
Depo amber corner lights
Replica JDM STi front lip
Replica GDB STi hoodscoop (bleh :-/)

A lot of this is going to change, as I will be building the car to my liking, as well as prepping it for track time.

Well, put the Cobb downpipe back on and flashed it back to Stage 2. I should probably reconsider doing the Blouch Dom 1.5XTR. This is already a lot of car. Looks like I will be addressing all of the suspension, since it is otherwise stock aside from Feal coilovers, Cobb swaybars front and rear, and the 5x114 knuckles and brembos.

This is stupid and I'm probably going to get into some trouble on the street. I'm definitely driving it home tonight :devil::devil::devil:

Time to install the JDM STi seats I have, before the fast ride home.

Got the STi seats in, matches the front and rear Version 5/6 door panels a bit better, along with holding me in a LOT better than the stock RS seats. Cleaned the car up a little and shot some pics.

Let me just say, pulling DD duty with an Exedy twin disc is doable, but not recommended. Not sure what one of the previous owners was thinking when they put that in. OE STi clutch can handle 370lb/ft at the wheels, so maybe this clutch needs to get downgraded to an ACT HDSS or Exedy stage 1.

Now to start sorting all the small things like:

- why the cigarette plug doesn't work
- seeing what keyless entry module the car actually has, and adding more keys/remotes
- clunk from the left rear suspension
- fix retention spring for the dash top cubby
- headlight aiming

Parts I plan to put on the car for now:

- Revalved house brand coilovers and camber plates(Mann Engineering)
- STi pink spherical rear lateral links and trailing arms
- STi aluminum control arms
- WL ALK, RCA, and front bushing
- Hood struts
- Harness bar, Sabelt seat, Schroth Quick Fit Pro 5-point harness
- Rear triangle brace(maybe Oswald?)

Power parts for later:

- Blouch DOM 1.5XT-R 10cm 3" inlet
- Grimmspeed TMIC
- ID1700s
- Bosch 044 with Holley Hydramat or Walbro 460s and Radium surge tank
- IAG Topfeed TGV deletes, topfeed fuel rails, power steering line, AOS, and anything else they make that will fit

Happy Motoring!

Got a few things done on the car today after brown santa dropped off more parts

Projector retrofits with Morimoto HIDs
Ebay hood dampers
Iwire GC to GD radiator shroud adapter
JDM clear corners

Tried fixing the cigarette plug so I can charge my phones, but its doing something odd with the illumination circuit, so I can see why the previous owners let it be. I cannot. Guess I'll try again tomorrow.

On wheel choice, unfortunately not many wheel manufacturers make the size and offset I need, since its no longer a popular size and offset (17x8 or 8.5 50-40ish offset) I did find the Konig Hypergrams are available in 17x8 +45 and +35, so this is most likely the route I'll be taking, as I need two sets of wheels. If only I can find two sets of old school wheels...searched ebay to no avail, so onto the next one.

I'll put some pics up in the morning.

Well, getting the prodrive replica lip that came off my sedan wrapped, along with the rear spats that came with this car. Should complete the exterior look for now.

Then it will be time to delve into the suspension. The good stuff.

And on another very financially stupid point, I found an 05 STi 6MT in need of a rebuild, so I'm getting it and sending it off to the team at Rallispec for a teardown and rebuild with JDM long ratio gears, and also having a tuned OS Giken front LSD installed. >.<

Aaaaand the car is going to go under the knife...

Mann Engineering coilovers with front camber plates and rear Bakemono camber plates
STi Pink rear lateral links and trailing arms
STi AL control arms
WL RCA, WL ALK, and front bushing
Konig Hypergrams 17 x 8 +35 with 235/45/17 Achilles 123S

And whatever else I can cram in before the weekend of July 16th for GTA/MotorMassive

Yeah...I know it doesn't stop. Too many big plans for this car. Its been sitting as I work on my DD GC sedan. Need to start a journal on that soon.

Suspension may be going on this week...if I don't get lazy.

Here is the back half of the suspension going into the car. These are my favorite rear links to use as they are no fuss spherical OEM quality links.

Re-aligned the car today, previous owner said it was aligned...yeah...no.

Right rear wheel had 2 degrees of positive camber.

Got everything right where I wanted it and ready to drive home, then heard a noise. Turns out, the wheels are now contacting the Feal coils.

Well, time to take these coilovers off and get new wheels...:/
