I have seen people that remove the cover under their hood vent on the intake side (picture)

This seems like a good idea in terms of getting some cooler air to my short ram intake, but i was wondering if it would be safe to do so (in regard to rain or water from me washing the car possibly getting in the intake). Is this ok to do with a SRI?

(i found a similar thread, but there were like 3 replies that werent consistent)

I had this same question for quite a while. What I've done is, I keep the cover in my trunk, and if i know it's going to rain or I am going to wash my car I just slap it on real quick.

As for performance, without the HTAutos vent scoop(or something comparible) there isn't too much air going to actually go IN through the vent.

The vents weren't exactly designed to be functional. But it does let quite a bit of engine heat out.

As for water getting into the intake, keep your filter clean and oiled, and you shouldn't have a problem. Actually happened to me last night. Left the cover off, then it rained for about 3 hours steady. Checked the filter after, wasn't even damp. So no harm, no foul.

i had mine open before , but since my area rain pretty often and snow during winter
so i put it back on.
well i dont think is a good idea to have too much water suck in from you intake
but if you live in a dry area sure why not
and i dont really feel a big different having it on or off

I have them all off, even the hood scoop during the summer rain or shine.

During the winter I put the hood vent covers back on with spacers, hood vent spacer mod. I donn't have the cover for my hood scoop. I would keep them off all winter if I could. But it's a royal pain to clear off all the snow if I'm getting or giving someone a boost.

when i had a short ram i had the one vent open, through rain and snow, nothing is wrog with the car at all, now i only have the scoop open for my Gravel-Sport intake, but from what ive seen and heard you can have all 3 open and nothing really happens, you just have to watch for corrosion around the battery, but thats easily wiped off
