RE-92's

O.K. don't flame me for still using them! I paid for them when I bought the car, and dammit, I'm gonna use them up.

My question, has anyone else had problems with 92's that won't stay balanced? I have balanced one tire on my car about five times now, and it will only stay balanced for about two days. I am pretty sure that it is a broken or shifting belt, but I was just wondering if this was a fluke or do all Bridgestones do this? I have owned 3 sets of Bridgestone tires counting the 92's, and so far, I have had problems with two sets. One set of 30x9.5 Desert Duelers had broken belts in all four tires! (total garbage, and the selling dealer wouldn't warranty them, but that's another story)

I was going to buy RE950's when these tires are done, but now I'm starting to think that all Bridgestones are junk and I'll just be throwing my money away.

The GC8 seems to be particularly sensitive to tire balance issues. That said I was never able to get my RE-92s to smooth out, and I have a tire balancer at work. I don't think it is peculiar to Bridgestone, a lot of low end tires are junky that way. I've never had a problem with any other Bridgestone tire except a set of RE-71s on a customer car.

I sell a lot of higher end Bridgestones, including the RE-950s to my customers and I have had no problems with them. I have been very impressed with the RE-950s actually.

hey they don't call me tire slut for nothing

My go round with RE92s,,very embarrasing

Th Re92s come stock on the LegacyGT also.I had two go bad, both out of round at about 18000 miles.
I went to the dealer with which i thought was a front wheel bearing going bad,no vibration but when youd hit the brakes it sounded and felt like a bearing. They call and tell me its two front tires,i go ballistic and tell em there fulla crap and just wanna sell me tires.Any way they had it apart,i came down ,they said they had every mech drive it and they all came to the same result.
Anyway i still wasnt buyin it,so I said lets take the fronts off my RS which were almost brand new and put em on the GT and see what happens. They were right , no noise, no vibes under breaking
Sooo,I went out and bought 4 Re730s from tirerack put em on the RS and took the RE 92s off the RS and put em on the GT.So far im very pleased with the 730s and the second set of 92s is holden up fairly well(holden my breathe lol)
The dealer only charged me $36 bucks to do all the switchen and balancing.Ive got a good dealer, mod friendly too.
We autocrossed the hell outa the old ones,,lasted about 6 runs, rough course.

I haven't had problems with my RE92s (except they freak me out in the rain), so I hope Bridgestones aren't a problem, because I'm gettin S-03s soon!:biggest:
I didn;t have a problem with mine and have always been happy with bridgestone tires. Anything that comes stock on the Porsche 911 Twin Turbo can;t be all bad. :)

Any possibility that that one tire is spinning on the wheel?

I wish!

Do you realize how much torque it would take to do that? Lots:yikes: There are some drag racers out there who run bead locks for that reason, but they're putting WAY more power to the ground than I am.

Have you ever had any experience with a powder (can't remember who makes it) you put inside the tire that's supposed to eliminate "road force variation"? Does it work or is it another Intake Tornado? All I have access to is a 10 Year old computerized balancer (Hunter, I think).
Balancing compound, we've got some on order. I haven't played with it yet.

If you have access to any high speed wheel balancer then the porblem should be easily diagnosed. You don't need a GSP-9700 for most diagnosis. If the tire is out of round it will be visible, likewise if the rim is bent in any way that will be visible also. And so long as the machine is calibrated the balane should be good. In almost all instances of tire imbalance the problem is operator error of the equipment unles there is a physical visisble abnormality on thetire/wheel assembly.

The tire is not out of round, and the wheel is perfect. I can balance the tire and it is fine for 2 to 5 days, I suppose about 10 or so heat cycles and then it starts to shake again. It also seems to be temperature related, now that it is getting colder, the problem is not as noticable. I assume that the problem is a physical abnormality in the tire, I am only having a problem with one tire, the other three are fine.
pressure

have you tried playing with your pressures? Maybe make that one a little firmer than the rest?
Opinion...

How are you guys keeping your RE 92's so long? Mines were toast after 10,000miles...Oh and I love Bridgestone more than any other brand...But, if I had to buy a new set of tires, I would put my money on a set of BFGoodrich KDW's...

How did you manage to chew through a set of RE92s in 10k miles?
RE: How did I manage to kill the '92s?

I guess rough driving and the hot Florida sun...

One autocross without checking the pressure's and ater 8k on the tire's mine were toast
I don't even have 7000 miles on my car yet and i've already gone through most of the tread on my RE92's. Couple more thousand miles and i'll have those Yoko AVS Sports :)
