My spare remote stop working a while back so I figured the battery was dead in the remote. I purchased a new battery, replaced the old one but the remote still did not work. So I called my Subaru dealer and took it in. At first they told me that all they would have to do is reprogram the remote and it should be fine. Well that did not work. So then they tried to blame the problem on me, saying that I disconnected my battery and now they had to reprogram the entire car and charged me for it. I do not understand how the entire car became un-programmed when my main remote still worked and I never did disconnect my battery. Any case I did not feel like fussing with them so I paid the bill that was $19 and went on. Well my spare remote is not working again now I do not know what to do. I do not know if I should go in and fuss with them about it or is there something else I could do that anyone may know about. If anyone has any suggestions, please I am looking for help this is becoming very irritating.

Thanks,
Kristi

They lied, pure and simple. Disconnecting the battery does not kill the settings for the remote. God knows I've disconnected my battery several times for one reason or another and it always works.

There is something wrong with (1) the remote or (2) the alarm brain. If you are under warranty, they are obliged to replace it for free.

I know they lied about the battery but I just wanted you all to know what they said but I have 15,500 mile on my car. I looked in the warranty book but I did not see anything that stated that my warranty covered remote problems. Do you know anything about the warranty. Does it cover that?

My keyless entry is shot too. I bought it into my dealer to get it fixed at around 13.5k miles, they moved the friggen reciever antenna, woo wee. It seems to only work when I'm about 5-15ft away, any further its a no go, also i have to really press down on the button to get it to work...my car has to go back in for this and the friggen driver side door that is sticking out AGAIN, after it was just there on Friday for it !!!! :(

hold the remote against your chin and see how far away you can be.

Interesting. You've found a dishonest dealership. Write a letter to the general manager explaining that you got ripped off and would like your money back, as well as the problem fixed for free.

I had my Jeep's keyless remote in my pocket when I did my first session of radiation and sure enough, when I got out to the car afterwards, it was dead. The dealership gave me a new remote for free, and asked me politely to not keep it in the room with me next time, even though they said it shouldn't have hurt it. That was pretty cool, because the remote was around $90-100 to replace.

Radio frequency radiation can damage or shorten the distance in which your keyless remote will work. When I was in the Navy I was stationed on a base that had lots o' RF flying around (Nick's sterile now:) ) and my keyless entry wouldn't work unless I was pointing the remote directly above the receiver. Do you work next to a radio station or someplace that broadcasts radio or microwave signals? Could have fried the circuitry in your remote.

It is not the range that has a problem, the romote does not work at all. I have changed the battery and it still would not work. I have made an another appointment with Subaru to see what kind of lie they come up with this time for why it does not work. The last time they blamed it on me. Which was bullshit but I really did not feel like fighting with them at the time. But oh buddy this time I will.

Before saying anything, kick the guy at the parts counter in the gnarlies. Then turn to the service guy and tell him that's what happens if he gives you grief. :D

I had the same exact problem with mine as well. I took it to the dealership in Arlington and told em it wasn't working. I came back the next day and as always asked what they did. They said the computer needed to be reprogrammed and was COVERED by warranty and that it should not have happened. I would write a nasty letter to Subaru North America. Believe it or not writing to big corporations always pays off. Most dealerships also give you a "screw-up allowance". My new dealership in Boulder gives you one screw up, ie. hooking the jumpercables up backwards and frying the computer, where they will fix it under warranty. If, and only if, they find out YOU caused they same problem twice then they'll charge.

My two cents...
