i don't know how to explain it well. when i speed up my 2002 RS automatic, i will hear a noise coming from the engine,i'm not sure if that comin from engine or not. the noise is not loud but you can hear it. it sounds like a tiny ball is running inside the pipe. er.....stupid description,but i just want to know if u guys have that kind the problem or not.and i am thinking to go back to the dealer to double check.

I've heard a noise like that in my car too. Had me wondering what the hell was wrong with my car! So to hear it better, I first turned off the stereo, but I still couldn't quite tell where it was coming from. next, I turned off the heater fan. Viola! Noise went away! It's my freakin' fan, and it only make the noise when I'm accelerating! Anyways, try that, maybe it's the same thing. Don't know why the fan only makes a noise under acceleration, but there it is.

I have that fan noise too, but only when i run it at setting 4.

Also have a high pitched whine sound when I'm cruising at 60 mph and hold the gas just right. Push down harder or let up, and it goes away. It's pretty weird.

My '98 L did that, took it in and the dealer said it was leaves in the heater duct. (read: they weren't going to fix it)

My '01 did that and I took it to the dealer where I bought it and they replaced it under warranty. Now it makes a knocking noise like it's hitting something.
Funny thing about the squeak - it would go away if the car flexed, like on a tight right turn.

Car's going back in for a fog light switch replacement under warranty, and I'll have them fix the blower while it's there.

so Honda Hater, could you tell me how to turn off the heater fan off??? so i can test on it like you did. so will dealer replace a heater fan for me or what? why Impreza got so many minor problems? it should be a good car! sigh~~~ -___- but performence isn't that bad tho. =)

I just flipped the fan speed to off (all the way to the left), so it doesn't blow anymore.

There's only one fan in the HVAC (heater vent air conditioning) system. Any setting will turn the fan on.
