Ok i had a bugeye but it cost me to much money. So i bought a 2001 2.5rs in bad shape. After a engine goes in im going to do the normal stuff like headers exhaust pulley and what not. But is their any systems that will allow me to tune my car with out it being a stand alone unit. I know apexi has made a/f controllers but i want to know whats the best option. Can i use an open ecu and go through a laptop?

I think the 01 ECU is supported by OpenECU, but double check, I could be wrong. You next best option would be a PP6 or like a Greddy EManage. Those are just your standard piggyback ECU's. Or look into an I-Speed reflash too. Some members here have an I-Speed reflash and really seem to like it.

PP6 sucks
No it doesn't. I've been using one for years, first when I was NA, and now that I'm boosted, and it does what it's supposed to do, and it does it well, as well as being fairly easy to tune.
