140 lbft of torque.

all the 2.2L had automatic trannies.

not sure which diff you are refering to, i'm assuming rear and i'm quite sure its open, as with the front.

also, which coupe are talking about? there were several trim levels of the coupe, from base-LX.

speaking of the LX, that's the only one with a rear sway bar, but if you're building a rally car, you probably don't care. also, most of the L's came with rear drums, but you could get an upgrade to rear discs (with ABS also).

power mirrors are standard, no MY95 impreza has power windows or locks.

well, the base model impreza had no radio, no a/c, none of that crap. it came in a coupe and it had a 5MT. IIRC it was only sold with a 1.8L though so depending on which class you plan on running, this may not be so good. you can also pick up an old legacy turbo for dirt cheap too. good luck finding a manual though.

iBlueVirus,

I found some info online at MSN Carpoint

http://autos.msn.com/vip/usedsingleyear.aspx?modelid=2626&src=vip

The following I got from the factory service manual;

95 2.2L Engine
135HP / 140 ft-lb
9.5:1 Comp Ratio
SOHC

Only the LX had the 2.2L and the 2.2L only had the 4AT in AWD.

Rear Diff was an open gear hypoid 4.111 on the 4AT and 3.900 on the 5 Speed (AWD w/ viscous center diff).

5 speed 4AT
1 3.545 2.785
2 2.111 1.545
3 1.448 1.000
4 1.088 0.694
5 0.825 ---
R 3.416 2.272

Color:
Hunter Green Metallic
Crimson Pearl
Aegean Blue Metallic
Amethyst
Cardinal Red
Caribbean Green Metallic
Brilliant Red
Black Diamond Pearl
Glacier White

Trim Models: Base, L, & LX
Only the LX (and the L w/ the ABS optn) had 4 wheel disc brakes standard

The Sunroof was an option as were Power Windows and Power Door Locks

few more tidbits... (and the previous poster's hp #'s are wrong! - trust me on this... ;) )

4 cyl. boxer -
sequential multi-port fuel injected, distributorless ignition

1.8L: 110 hp, 110 [email protected]
2.2L: 135 hp, 140 [email protected]

Manual transmission available with 1.8L engines. The only 1.8L with auto. trans was on the base Impreza model

Automatic transmission available only with the 2.2 L engines. There were no 2.2L with manual. trans.

wheelbase: 99.2"
ground clearance: 6.3"
curb weight: 2400-2900 pounds

BRAKES...
Going to be hard to find rear disc on a 95 L...
Brakes
base model Impreza: front disc, rear drum - no anti-lock
L = front disc, rear drum - no anti-lock
L with Active Safety Group( an add on feature...) = front and rear disc with anti-lock
LX= front and rear disc with anti-lock

what class are you planning on running in?

cheers

okay a couple of things here..

if you change ONE THING on the car...
hood, wing, dash, etc...you're in open.
if you run a K&N filter... you're in open.
swap your clutch? = open
turbo = open.

and...

if you have a 1.8L AWD Impreza... you're in production gt
not production... only the 1.8 FWD Impreza or the Justy or
the extremely rare 2.2 FWD Legacy can run in Production...

the 1.8 AWD = PGT
and running against the WRX/ STi etc...

let me know if you have any questions okay?

damn PGT?! Now the question would be... is it better to run in Production with a FWD and later swap tranny and the rear or change car and run in open or PGT?

that all depends...
what are your long term goals?

are you in it right now to get out there? and be involved?
are you willing to go slow for a bit and LEARN ?
or is it all about speed?

eventually where do you see yourself?
open? PGT?
what kind of competition are you looking for?

i bought the P car (FWD) with the intention of
1 - doing something different (there are no FWD Impreza's out there)
2 - moving the car up a class when "i got bored"

after investigating all it would take to convert the FWD to a LEGAL PGT AWD... no way. i said forget it... and sold the car to another beginner... then purchased a different car to go and run PGT with... just better planning i think... and reality is there is very little chance of taking a FWD car and making it into a PGT car (legal car...) likely it would end up in OPEN class as everylittle nut/bolt/screw has to be to manufacture spec or you can and will be protested... fun eh? :)

oh and...
it's much much much much easier to buy a car already prepped than to build one... TRUST me on this.... :)

i'm here if ya need help.

well, first I still have MUCH to learn, so I don't feel like spending a whole lot on a car that I most likely well crash. :p

I goals are..
1. learn and get as much seat time as possible..
2. move up a class when I am ready.

But do you think it's worth it to get a FWD for rally? Maybe it's good for me to master my left foot braking. :) If I am going to get a car run it keep it for a SHORT while, I might not be so specific on what I want.... Thanks again jamie!

if you want to start in the put put production class...
the FWD is the only way you're going to be in there.

NO AWD (except the Justy...) is permitted in that class due to the multipliers... it bumps em outta class.

www.bensrallypage.com

you can buy used, pre prepared cars for 1/10th the cost of building one yourself...

production, pgt... etc... doesnt matter what class you start in
chances are you will not be competitive from the get/go anyway.
take your time and learn the car.
learn how rally works/flows....
and have FUN with it!!!

:)

if you run a K&N filter... you're in open.
not if its a direct replacement panel filter.

K&N panel filter in stock box
oh, look ;)

and sold the car to another beginner...
i'm going to tell mike you're talking smack :p

and running against the WRX/ STi etc...
depends on the production run of the STi. i still havn't seen any numbers. then again, the ITR was given a stock class in solo 2 when it shouldn't have...

regardless of which route you go, have fun. as for speed, i've gotten going plenty fast in my basically stock RS, and that wasn't even at full rally speed. hp is probably not going to be your friend when you're starting out. having ridden in an Open class EVO, all i can say is damn, it would be way too much car for me right now.
