First I own a 97 obs with a DOHC 2.2L manual 5 speed.
I am yanking the engine out to replace the slipping clutch and to rebuild my tranny as the synchros are going in 2nd from my last auto-x event.
I am going to lurk around a few local junkyards in order to see if I can locate a 2.5L DOHC motor to put back in as I understand they for the most part are plug and play with minor wiring difficulty.
My question is what to look for so that I don't get a really big paper weight. (since I am not able to start and listen to it run)
I.E. stuff that I can do in the junkyard. Like look at mileage if possible, see why it was wrecked (if hit in the back.. so on).
tear the head off and look at cylinders. valves?
Please any help will be gratefully appreciated.
