There was another autocross yesterday, and I did a lot better than last time. I didn't place, but I wasn't last. I think the tires made quite a bit of difference! The best time for H-Stock was about 40 seconds, and my best run was 43.699 plus 1 cone, but I murdered that damn cone! The three cars that had the lowest times were an Escort GT, an Eclipse, and a VW Rabbit(I think)! There was an older Civic Si hatchback that did pretty good too. I really need to do my suspension soon! The car was rolling a lot! But overall, I don't think I did too bad, and the pulleys I have were never an issue! The next one is in two weeks, if the bastards where I work will let me have the day off! I need to consult my rulebook and see what I can do to stay in H-Stock, since I don't think I'm ready to run in STS-the lowest times there were about 38 seconds! I should have my RS front bumper conversion done by then, and I think I am going to get one of those universal fit bug screen things for my front bumper to try to keep it from getting scratched by those damn cones! Otherwise, maybe I'll cover it in cardboard when I run! :D

if you want to stay stock, you can only change the shocks (and they must use all the original mount points and not change the ride height), brakepads, tires, exhaust a few other little things.

Major suspension work, rear sways, strut tower bars, etc aren't allowed in stock.

The factory front-end cover works great for preventing cone marks. I should know, I hit 6 cones on Saturday and 4 on Sunday!

the shocks can only be up to 2 way adjustable. brake pads are open. front sway bar is open. air filter is open. catback exhaust is open (but it still has to be on there ;) ). any stock sized rim can be used, with any DOT legal tire you can fit on it. the body may NOT be modified in any way, though, if people are cool at your local events, they probably won't care about it (like my mudflaps and skidplates, but those come off for Div's).

Maybe I will have to go to STS. I'm set on the tires; they're awesome! I need to get a new set of front pads that are cheap but work better. I don't want to take off my pulleys, and I have an intake coming, so maybe I'd be better off adding mods instead of removing them. I also want to get the KYB AGX's and some springs that will lower it, so I guess I'd better not plan on staying in stock!:curse: I may be adding a rear sway bar if all works well-I think that would take me out of STS if I remember right. The more I think about it, the better going turbo sounds!

10th Warrior-I thought you could add mods to the body so long as they don't reduce weight.

Benson-there is a whole pack of bastards where I work; you only had the pleasure of meeting one of them! :D

Any swaybar is legal in STS - front or rear. In stock, only the front swaybar can be changed. :D

Darrell,
I didn't know bastards all over Autozone :D In that case, we'll join force and against all domestic lovers (including the Nascar fanatics)...with that said, you better mod the hell out of your baby. ;)

that rule tends to apply mostly to adding interior stuff, like gauges and lights and what not. just keep in mind, whether it matters or not, someone could protest a v5/6 front bumper for areodynamic reasons or better cooling for the radiator and brakes. the rule reads:
...appearance, comfort, and convenience modifications which have no effect on performance and/or handling and do not materially reduce the weight of the car are permitted.
like i said, at a local event, no one will probably care. but at a more competitive event, esp. if you start kicking everyone's ass, that may be another story.

if you start kicking everyone's ass
:roflmao: At any rate, I doubt that will happen any time soon!

Benson-yes, they're everywhere! Everyone's pissed at me because I told them I want every other Sunday off so I can autocross. :curse: cavemen!

I can't make it to Fostoria, Darrell. It's momma's day and all.... I might be able to make it out your way so you can see what's up with my 1.8. If you want to stay in HS, the AGX's would be your best bet. And if you actually like NASCAR, you could try to bend them rules and put a set of RS springs on(I got 2 sets in my basement). Nobody would know, except by your drastically reduced times!

Honestly though, struts would be next best since you have a good tire now. Brakes after that since you can't do a swaybar in back (yet!).

I still have to try those coilovers on my 1.8, so bear with me while I get my shit together. Those springs I have will work well for you in STS or whatever.

Jay, Fostoria isn't until the 19th! I thought I told you, but maybe I forgot. I am going to just run in STS, since I got and installed my intake, and I don't want to take it off after the trouble I went through to make it work right! So I guess I can do a rear sway bar, springs, and KYB's!:) I'm not into NASCAR at all! I won't go into why, but let me just say this about that topic: :curse: :boxer: :flame: :barf: :stinky:  :boring:

I feel the same about nascrap! I forgot that Fostoria isn't till the 19th also. I'll be in Columbus at a Mopar show. MRT has the rear control arms that have the swaybar mounts (and are adjustable). We'll get you hooked up.

But how much are they? I need to be as cheap as possible! :D

They aren't very much, especially with the exchange rate. Although, STS may have issues with adjustable control arms. I'm not certain, but it's something to think about. STS allows camber plates, so maybe I'm outta my mind!

The 19th I'll be running in Akron, and my car will be there as well. I'm still running the RS, but I'll be coming back home from C-bus that AM to make the event. See if you want to take a little trip.

I'd love to come to Akron, but there are a few problems. I would have to leave my house no later than about 6:30, which could be a problem for me. Also, I would have to either change my tires the night before or bring them with me and change them there, which would be a hassle more than anything. Most importantly, though, is that I don't think I will be able to get this Sunday off from work!:curse: I probably won't get to run anywhere! But if it does happen that I can get the day off, I will try to make it out! I'll let you know.

www.autox.net is the homepage for the Akron SportsCar Club. I'll have the new toy out there this Sunday. Our cordless impact wrench! 240 ft/lbs from 18v will let you change those tires in NO time!

I'm bringing my GF's car since my exhaust is too much for her (for any length of time). But I'll see about trying to get you nearer to my car so you can see how the springs work on it.

I don't know that I'll be able to make it-I didn't realize it started so early! In Toledo, registration doesn't close until about 10:00, and even if you get there at the last minute, you can still register. I would actually have to leave no later than 5:30 to make it on time!:( I think I will plan on coming to one later in the season, or when I get off work early on a Saturday so I could drive out and get a hotel room the night before.
